i just recently finally got started putting videos on youtube. managed to post 2 .MOV vids about 2 weeks ago. though i had it knocked and tried to load more, only to find out that youtube does not like .MOV's. ok, so i found a program to convert to .AVI or MPEG, used it, and tried loading with that format. i have not succeeded in loading any more videos to date.

meanwhile we are recording videos every chance we get and just keepiong them on our hard drive, waiting for the problem to resolve. recent news is, youtube is having issues. i think i'm doing things the "right" way, but i am wondering if anyone else is having problems uploading to youtube? if you are having success, i wonder if you'd share how you're doing it? i'd very much like to get more content on youtube!

thanks in advance.....

jbone,

Without you being more specific, I can't give you a more specific answer, though I'll try to offer what I know:

1. Make sure the video is suitably compressed.

2. I presume you've checked the forum's how-to page.

3. YT's upload page has a sentence that reads something like, 'If you're having trouble uploading...' It's says something that's quite straightforward on a close reading.

Jbone. I had the same problem with the SCA video I recently uploaded. It kept showing an error after waiting 3 hrs for the 2 gig file to upload.

I always use WMV files and never had a problem. I rerendered the file several times in several formats and it still wouldn't work. After two days I was getting frustrated.

I even tried to use the old upload format and it still would give me the error. Something like "wrong file extension". Or something like that.

I uploaded the same video to my FaceBook account and it worked. The next day I tried to upload it to Youtube and it worked.

I think youtube is having small problems they may not realize. I have been thinking about making the jump to Vimeo.

jbone, you could also try to upload smaller "testing" videos first. With a length of 10secs everything goes faster. If that works you can go to the larger files...

jbone,

If you've not already compressed the file, I'm almost certain that is the problem. That happened to me.

If you're using Windows Movie Maker, when you save the file, keep reducing the file size until it goes down to 15 frames per second, then go up one notch to 25 frames per second. I'm not hugely experienced but that seems to upload OK with a reasonable degree of quality.

Have a look at the uncompressed file; I'll wager it's over a GB in size. Those files just won't upload to YT.

Youtube accepts files 2gigs in size and 10 min in length. As long as it meets those criteria it should in all logical sense work. THere have been problems in the past few weeks with files that should be able to upload. I am sure they are working on it.

I wouldn't recommend any frame rate under 24fps. Any more and it is more than the human eye can compute.

That is why most mini dv camcorders shoot 30 fps. (fps = frames per second) I am not sure of what program you are using but there are usually "default" templates that should do you just fine. Just don't try rendering your movie as HD 1080 50p

If all else fails email me and we should be able to get it figure out. joe@joejesse[dot]com
