nice pic! Junior Wells was a great influence to my playing in my early days with his fiery style, tone and attack. Happy Birthday! ---------- ~Todd L. Greene, Devout Pedestrian

I've been listening quite a lot of Junior Wells these weeks. Huge harp player, great singer and mighty groover. Love it !
A great album I recommand : "Junior Wells & Buddy Guy Play the Blues", with help from Eric Clapton, the J. Geil's Band and even Dr John on two tracks.

I think South-side Blues Jam is the best. I think I have every word to every song and close to every harp part note for note memorized at this point, and that wasn't intentional, I just listen to it WAY to much haha. My second favorite album would be Live at Theresa's I think, that or Hoodoo Man Blues. One thing that really pissed me off yesterday was I was looking for lyrics to "I could have had a religion" cus I kept goofin up the second part of the second verse and I was trying to sing it with out the help of the track. All I found was videos and praise for Rory Gallagher! I was not impressed with his version at all. I was under the impression that the JW track was a recorded improvisation, but the fact that I found that somebody else did a version within a year or two of Junior got me to wondering if it was really Junior's song. Does anyone know for sure?
Quite simply he's my favorite of the "greats" and I think the only one that comes close to matching his whole presence/essence/soul/whatever is the Wolf. He was a BALLSY performer and was funkier than a mosquito's tweeter (not in the same context Nina Simone used, I just like how that phrase sounds haha).

I'll never forget the first time I saw Junior Wells along with Buddy Guy at a local club here on North Hollywood, California. The place was the most crowded it had ever been, the line to get in stretching way down the street. My friend and I were lucky enough to procure a spot at the bar and those guys proceeded to absolutley rock the place. After the first set, Junior came walking by where we were standing, and to me it was like magic seeing this guy that I had been listening to for so many years up so close. Like BBQ Bob said, he was dressed to the nines and giving off charisma to spare. (Even if he was kinda short...)
