Some nice folks in Tulsa have offered me a gig--harp clinic plus solo performance--in early 2010, and I'm 99% sure I'm going to take it. It'll most likely be the first or second Saturday in February.
Ideally I'd like to pair it with a similar event in a city that routes well. St. Louis is an obvious place. I once did a Gindick camp there--my first Gindick camp, in fact--and of course it's a blues town. Does anybody here know who I might contact in St. Louis to explore possibilities for a Friday evening event? Although a clinic makes the most sense, I'm certainly open to the idea of special-guesting with a local blues band. I'm also open to offers in other cities that make routing sense: Little Rock is the most obvious, but there might be others. Nothing too close to Tulsa, obviously.

I'm on that like stink on pooh! I went to a Junior Markham's birhday celebration and harp festival in Tulsa a year or two ago and it was a blast. Your boy Billy Gibson was there, RJ Mischo, David Bernsten, Dennis O (the harp mic customizer) was there, some good players from the Tulsa scene. I had a ball! Throw in sen sei Gussow and I don't see how it could get any better! I look forward to seeing you there.

Too bad it's not a couple of months later. The Society for American Archaeology conference will be in St Louis in early April, and I'll be there then... Shucks! ---------- ------------------

Gussow, don't forget Eureka Springs. There's a place called Chelsea's Corner that Jason Rici has played a couple times as well as John Nemeth and I think Nuslich was there a while back too.

I'd be happy to pass through Eureka Springs. Anybody from there on here? Let's talk.

Son of a bitch!!! Why can't I still live in Tulsa!?! My suggestion would be to try Kansas City, Ft. Smith Ar., Maybe Oklahoma City. You could always come to Indianapolis too!
Anyway, I might just have to go visit family when you go to Tulsa. I wouldn't want to miss it.

Nathan P. Murphy's in downtown Springfield MO would be a good choice. Around three hours from Tulsa. It's owned by Dr. Bob of the locally famous blues radio show.

My "hobby house" next door is usually available (and maybe a rental house or two) if you (or possibly others from this forum) need a place to crash while in the area.

Springfield sounds good. I'll contact Dr. Bob. OzardkRich, is there any kind of blues harmonica club in town, or blues society, that might be willing to help put something together?

No harmonica clubs (that I've found yet) but the Blues Society of the Ozarks organizes several events including a festival every September and might be able to help. I'm afraid I haven't had time to be involved with them aside from attending events. More hopeful for the next year.

You know, it might be good to pick a spot in the area central to Eureka, Northwest Arkansas (Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville) and Springfield MO.
Besides the Blues Society of the Ozarks, we have the Ozarks Blues Society here(which I finally joined last week at their big annual event) and maybe a joint venture between the two would produce better numbers of harp players for a clinic.
I know some of the board members of the Ozarks Blues Society and could pitch the idea or give you contact info.

Now you go though Saint Looey Joplin, Missouri, and Oklahoma City is mighty pretty. You see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico, Flagstaff, Arizona. Don't forget Winona, Kingman, Barstow, San Bernandino.
