Ops, my wife saw the credit card receipt for a batch of Crossover's and whatnot. If you thought Tiger Woods is in the dog house...I really have the blues.
Does you spouse really know how much you spend on harps and fixings?

A year ago when my gf ditched me I had three harps, of which she only knew about one, and she thought that was one too many! Now she wants me back, but she hasn't seen the size of my box of harps yet! ---------- Kinda hot in these rhinos!

If I paid the bills ....... well, I wouldn't. My wife handles ALL the money. So, she knows what I spend on everything. It is never a problem, I spend what I want on whatever I want. Only rule is, I have to give her advanced notice before I spend more than $100 so that she can make sure the $ is the account. The best part is, she makes more $ than me. Guess I have it pretty good.

Well, we are living on my social security and her little part time job while our pillaged retirement funds recover. My musical instrument purchases are funded by gig money so no, she doesn't know how much I spend but she knows it ain't much.

Solution: just ask the Mrs how much she spends on non-functional items like cosmetics and extra pairs of shoes. You won't win the argument, that would be impossible, but, you will have a phyrric victory of sorts. ---------- YouTube SlimHarpMick a.k.a. HarmonicaMick

My wife knows exactly how much I spend on harps and she doesn't mind one bit because she knows I don't buy new musical gear unless I feel it will help my playing or I've sold an old bit of gear that hasn't been used in years. Plus she knows I make money @ gigs so... yeah. She understands because she herself is an artist and I NEVER bitch at her for buying supplies. I guess I have it pretty good!

To avoid a divorce two years ago we negotiated the following:
1. I get 10% of my net income and all of my overtime to spend on hobbies.
2. I got the one bedroom house next door to keep all my hobbies in (and agreed to keep those hobbies out of "our" house).
3. I get three evenings a week to spend with her doing whatever I choose to do (and am gone the other evenings so she can have her free time).
So far, so good.

what cost? i have friends that send me harps they dont want. the amps? oh. i won the harp gear in a raffle. the other was broke and i had a friend rewire it. the cases? they're just cheap cases i find on discount. mics? crappy sounding mics that the previous owners dont use because of their inferior sound and were going to be thrown out.
i did pay $15 for the hat.
would i lie to you, honey?

Not to the penny, but I get 90% of my stuff on the internet and she sees it delivered to the house. I am lucky as my wife has a very long leash when it comes to my hobbies. I just have to remember to keep slammin' dough into the house and she is happy. A bucket of paint makes me a hero...

Yes she does. She does not monitor my spending as long as we have the 80 / 20 deal. She gets 80% of the left over money and I get 20%. She wants something, I buy it for her. I used to shoot trap. On a busy weekend, between shells and fees, you could spend $150 easy. I shot every single weekend. Trap shot guns go $1000 and up - WAY up. I had 6 of them at one time. Sold all but one a while back when I quit. What I have invested in all my harps and my Epi Valve junior is less than my cheapest shotgun was. Plus I am home and not driving all over the place to contests. I work hard, pay my bills, take care of everyone, do what I want with what is left. I should save more. But I should also eat less steaks and ribs and burgers, but that will not happen any time soon either.

Well she does but I don't get any flak over it. She's a great lady although once she had a weak moment and gave me some guff over it and told me that she didn't want me spending any more money on harmonica stuff. I went out an bought me a new Strat and a new Dobro, When she freaked out over the few thou they cost, I said..."Well, you said you didn't want me buying any more harps so I thought guitars would be OK."
She's cool with the harps now and I got a strat and a dobro out of it ;-)

I worked two days of overtime to buy a $600 mixer last year around this time. Now the business I work for is struggling and overtime is hard to come by. A 435 harp here and there isn't too hard to justify since I make my own mics and they are free to me from old parts laying around. The valve junior head has nearly paid for itself, if you only apply the gig money I've used it at. I consider the harps disposable, but have only flatted out one reed on one harp in 9 months...not bad for a rank beginner.
It seems like every time I suggest a new "need", she questions it, but most of the time I end up making it myself or modifying some guitar gear. I even sold one old 15w SS practice amp to buy a marine band once....lol. She loves the band and our music, so that helps.
I have a 10x14 practice studio full of PA gear (2100watts/two subs/two mains/two monitors...two more in the garage), digital recording equipment, guitars/bass/mandolins/5 congas/2 sets bongo/cd changer/gig bags for all the above except the congas/crates of cables/guitar amps/trumpet/harp gear...I occasionally have her help me rearrange the inadequate space to remind us both of how much room i really need, but don't have. She puts up with plenty i guess, I am pretty lucky.
