Another thread about spouses know how much you spend got my thinking. How Important is plying to you? If you were given the ultimatum: Quit or give up an important thing in your life or quit playing harp, which would you choose?

Your SPOUSE or your HARPS.
Your KIDS or your HARPS.
Your JOB or your HARPS.
Your CAREER or your HARPS.
Your HOME or your HARPS.
Your CAR or your HARPS.
Your OTHER HOBBIES or your HARPS.
Your SEX-LIFE or YOUR HARPS.

If you think of others feel free to add them. Ill go first in a reply.

I'd Throw away my haps to keep my wife (assuming she wasn't the one giving the ultimatum) My wife is my best friend an very important to me.

I have no kids.

I would keep my job and thus my career over my harps any day. I love my job and my career makes me $.

I like my house so I would keep that too.

OOOH I like my truck but it will only be around for 5 more years at best. OOOH I'd hate to loose it but I think it would have to go.

I'm a runner and a rock climber and would trade in my harps to do both.

Sex. As I get older I need it less. Wow, had to think about that one for a minute. I keep the sex.

Keep: Spouse, kids (not yet, but hypothetically), career, job (job and career are same for me), home (in order to keep my wife), sex life (no sex life = no need for the blues = no need for harmonicas)

Ditch: Car, hobbies, money, TV, shoes, meals, going out on the town, extra beers, responsibilities, household chores, study time, sleep, etc.

I can't really answer with that list as such.

I don't have a woman, but I'd prefer my harps if that were the choice; they never lie, cheat, or otherwise give you a full frontal kick in the teeth.

I don't much care for most material things. I just like to have, - well, do have - a few simple yet nice bits and bobs around me. I often think that if we all had to head for the hills like in disaster movies, I could go with a shoulder bag and not miss a thing I'd left behind.

I suppose that Nietzsche quotation that Patrick Barker - where is he? - used to use sums it up: "Without music, life would be a mistake."

dont got one so harps.

I have no spouse, job or sex life,so ya,I'd give those up.But seriously,I'd have a hard time giving up playing,it's one of my few great pleasures.
jonsparrow- weed and harp playing go hand in hand. I can't have one without the other. LOL

Your SPOUSE or your HARPS.
I love her a lot- I'm told that's how I feel..

Your KIDS or your HARPS.
Nothing's ever been proven that would stand up in court, so harps.

Your JOB or your HARPS.
Self employed, and working part time and barely even that, so harps. And what if harps ARE your career. Sort of like asking, "If God is so great, can he make a harmonica so large that even he can't play it?"

Your CAREER or your HARPS.
I had one once, a decade ago, so harps.

Your HOME or your HARPS.
I'm sick of all the repairs and stacking firewood, raking gravel on a 1/4 mile of driveway, and such. Hit the road in the motorhome with my harps.

Your CAR or your HARPS.
My 1990 Volvo 245 stick..? I'll have to think on that on.

Your OTHER HOBBIES or your HARPS.
HobbIES? We're allowed to have more than ONE!? Who knew?

Your SEX-LIFE or YOUR HARPS.
"Where I come from, you don't blow no harp, you don't get no pussy."

I pretty much match jon's answers aside from the bit about the weed.

Does giving up harps mean giving up playing music on all instruments or just harps?

I'm single and have no kids but probably spouse and kids over harps.

Your JOB or your HARPS.
I hate my job, I'll keep the harps, thank you.

Your CAREER or your HARPS.
My career is going nowhere, I like what I do but it's so hard to find another job right now. I think there's other career options for me so I'd take the harps here.

Your HOME or your HARPS.
Don't own a home but... Um, does giving up the harps mean not buying them ever again? I think I'll just buy another house in the same area, lol.

Your CAR or your HARPS.
Is that giving up all motor vehicles? If not I'll get a different vehicle, keep the harps.

Your OTHER HOBBIES or your HARPS.
I'd probably say harps are my primary hobby & generally come first when I have time limits so I'd say harps.

Your SEX-LIFE or YOUR HARPS.
Does that mean I could never have any sex life again or just the current non-existent one? I mean no sex ever again... I have my limits I'll continue playing other instruments, lol.

Well, I'd part with my car... Sorry, but I guess that is it. Got too much time invested in the rest and time is what seems to be my biggest need right now. Time to practice...

None of the above. The only one I had to think about was other hobbies. I love cooking and that helps my sex life - sort of "how bad did you want me to make Thai food?" - so the harps would have to go. I am 62 years old, but not dead yet. All others are no brainer keepers for me. Harps are a passtime for me, and the way I play, it shows.

"sex life (no sex life = no need for the blues = no need for harmonicas)"-Isaacullah

I don't know, no sex life seems like a pretty good excuse for the blues. Of course, there are lots of pills that will cure the blues that take away your sex life.

Andrew- The holes on my harmonica are way to small for that. You must be using Lee Oskars.

djm3801> I am with you. Playing the harp is all just a wonderful part of lifes rich tapestry. It consumes a great deal of time and effort but lots of other things are far more important.
Though I don't think I will ever have to give away harp playing for reasons like Tiger has had to give up playing golf.

I have a shitty 1996 toyota corolla. +1 HARP

Nursing career vs music? +1 HARP. I guess it's always possible to make money busking and teaching crazies from carigslist.

Hobbies (chess, cheating on my girlfriend)? +1 HARP

Home? +1 HOME I'm not willing to be homeless to play the harmonica. That would be crazy.

Sex-life? +1 Sex. There just isn't anything better than making love to a beautiful woman. However, if a beautiful woman gave me an ultimatum, well there is no decision there: she's already decided to kick her ass out of my life! Luckily, none of my girlfriends has ever pulled such a stunt on me. Usually the ultimatum is: me or her. Now that is much tougher than harp. When the answer is: can I have both?

Happily Divorced, No Conflict

Been Blowin' Harp longer then kids have been alive they know nothing different so no conflict

I sell for a living and I can sell anything so new job no biggie no conflict

I've had many cars and they've all gotten me to gigs where I can play Harp no conflict

I'm Divorced therefore I rent now No conflict

There are hobbies other then music? I'm sorry I don't understand the question....No conflict

If you take away Harps you take away my best pick up line She says : "I love the way you play", I answer : "Yea and it's the second best thing I do with my mouth" So without Harps I'm not getting laid as often anyway so .... No conflict.

Thank you for pointing out I have a relatively low stress life due to Blowing Harp. My Blood Pressure just went down 5 points No conflict

Well, IMO, much of the blues derives from lady troubles. If you don't have a sex life then by default you don't got lady troubles, and then you don't got the blues. What you have then is blue-balls and depression. ;) Similar to, but not quite the same as the blues!

Your OTHER HOBBIES or your HARPS.

Your SEX-LIFE or YOUR HARPS.
-ehm, see above

Isaaccullah, I respectfully disagree about the sex life issue haha. Its not something easily understood I guess. The term blue-balls doesn't even begin to describe what I got. No I for sure got the blues, somethin' awful too. There isn't anything I would keep in place of my harps presently, besides maybe my voice or my ears but I don't know if those would pass as being able to be traded. In my opinion lack of one kind of renders all others useless.

Fred,

Some good stuff going on in your life.

And let me add peace and love and Merry Christmas to all. If you do not use Christmas, then enjoy the spirit anyway. Or Spirits, as you prefer.
