you can get a 2-56 size tap at ACE too. Make sure they give you the hex bolts too, not the slotted ones. They have both (this was my mistake). In a pinch, you can buy 2-56 bolts and nuts at Radioshack (slotted head only) in their electronics components section. ---------- ------------------

I use this technique to replace the nails on my Marine Bands http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=proveit&view=videos
For bolts and screws I go to: http://www.harponline.de
I use these for the reed plates (they are self tapping): Screw Allen M2 x 10 V2A
And these foe the cover plates: Coverscrews Marine Band deLuxe
I am in the UK. I'm not sure if they deliver to the US.

hey, What length is the best? The ones I have are "around" 1/2 inch long, but I'm not sure, is the measurement the exact length of the entire screw, or just the threaded part? To me it seems to matter most on the front coverplate, so as to not rip the lip.

Yeah, I bought 1/2", and they were "too long". It turns out that this was a happy accident because they double as cover support struts, which I found were needed after I bent in the back tabs of the MB coverplates. I only used three screws to affix the reedplates (along the back through the old nail holes), and I arranged them in a "one up, two down" configuration so that the two outside screws screwed up through the blow reed plate, while the center one screwed down through the draw reedplate. The result is that the two "down" screws support the top coverplate, wile the center one supports the bottom coverplate, and thus prevent crushing.
I found that the 1/2 inch were too long for use to affix the coverplates though, especially if you are using the forward nailhole as a guide (the recommended configuration for optimum airtightness). In this case they overhang too much and WILL catch the lips in an unfriendly manner. Depending upon the thickness of your comb material, 3/8" will be much better. I used replacement composite combs which were a bit thicker than stock combs. If you are using the stock MB combs (ie after sanding and sealing them) you might need 5/16" or even as short as 1/4". 2-56 size is what you need for all these screws.
For reed replacement screws, I have it on authority (Kinya Pollard's harp smith articles) that you want size 0-80 screws of 1/8" length. Even when used with small #0 washers, the screws will be too long and you will likely need to nip off and sand down the amount that sticks proud of the bottom of the draw reedplate if there is not enough clearance at the back of the reedslots of the comb. He recommends to use brass screws for this, probably because they will be easier to nip off. I seem only to be able to source such screws with slotted heads, which is too bad becasue my dream is to get all screws in the harp to have hex heads, or at very minimum all with phillips heads. ---------- ------------------
