My new Buddha harp arrived today - just in time to mark my 3rd anniversary of taking up the harp. A nice present indeed.
I don't know what exact version this harp is as Buddha threw in a comb ugrade. It started out as a Golden Melody, Key of G, Lotus Harp version. I'm not sure what the tuning is, but I basically asked for something that would play Blackbird and Yesterday by the Beatles with proper intonation when accompanied by guitar (as my Delta Frost and SP20s sounded a little off to me at the time. They also just wouldn't play the full loud-to-soft range the songs deserved, IMHO).
So, first impressions:
- The comb looks cool, like a piece of laminated walnut furniture. Tastes woody, but not unpleasant.
- The back is very open. I forgot to consider that may not go well with the spring loaded harp rack. No problem once I went for it. Still, hoping I don't crush it if I rush it.
- It plays very easily. Feels like a C-harp agility wise
- It plays well when I play well. If I get careless with breathing or the shape of my mouth, I go out of tune immediately. This will present a challenge and an opportunity. It is hard enough to play along with the guitar and breathing is the first thing to go. If I can improve because of this, it should help me all-around (I hope).
- It plays quietly when you want to. Great for those long fade outs or quiet touches. My $30 harps just suddenly go silent and spoil the moment.
If I get any time, I'll try and post some pictures. If I get better, maybe a video.
