There's a show on CW called Supernatural. In one of the early seasons, there is an episode showing RJ at the crossroads. That leads to a whole mythology about Crossroads demons that run throughout the run of the show.

The basic premise of the lore is that you can make a pact with a demon at a crossroads. You then get what you want, but at the ten year mark, invisible hellhounds come track you down and kill you as they did RJ.

It is a pretty big plot point as one of the demons becomes the ruler of Hell after Lucifer is cast away. He's now the chief antagonist in the show. Killing a hellhound was also the first of three trials to close the gates of hell forever.

Full disclosure, I love this show. It is probably my favorite, although the last few seasons have dealt with heaven and hell as opposed to monster of the week stuff. There weren't too many religious overtones at the start beyond establishing that there are demons. It used to be about vampires and werewolves and such...the last three seasons, though have been angels vs. demons.

You can watch the first 7 seasons on Netflix and the 8th ends tomorrow.

@kudzurunner-Maybe i wasn't clear in my post. I am not knocking your role as a blues educator. I believe that is a noble function. I am questioning deconstructing pop movies in a school system that is increasingly more expensive and irrelevant.
I am a former teacher myself and have twins attending college so I am amazed at what fills the catalog.
i am guilty of participating in a course on Dixieland jazz at a local college so maybe its my guilt issue.
The culture of the blues in a historical context is awesome-pop culture as art bums me out.

jazz and blues musicians were steeped in the conflict of Saturday night vs. Sunday morning-so of course the issue of the devil was an easy one for both the " saved" and the others to each use for their own marketing advantage.
