Can anyone recommend my first Seydel purchase? I've got my mind set on a Soloist pro 12 in Low A, but think i need to get a 10 hole as well.

Both the Soloist Pro and 1847 Silver are nice harps, the latter a lot more trebly to my ears. ---------- YouTube SlimHarpMick a.k.a. HarmonicaMick

I want a Soloist pro as my next new harp(getting ready to work a barter for some more modded MBs first). Are all Seydels thicker than most other harps? They appear to be, but I haven't played one yet. ---------- ~Todd L. Greene, Devout Pedestrian

I've heard good things about the Saxony, kind of pricey though.

@ Todd, The 1847 and 1847 Silver are slightly thicker than my other harps. I could feel it when I first got them, but don't even notice it anymore.

I really didn't like the 1847 too airy. The Silver is better and I really do like the Favorites

How about the Sessions? If I buy another plastic-combed harp, I was thinking of one of them. ---------- ~Todd L. Greene, Devout Pedestrian

rbeets,i have a Saxony and some others too. It's a good chromatic,no doubt, but the harp i use the most is my Hohner 280C which is half the price of the Saxony.

The only one I've tried is a Favorite. It's as airtight as a thick plastic bag over your head! I would have tried the 1847 but the stainless steel harps (1847 and Big 6) can't be tuned down as far as some of the others (I got the LLF). I also considered the Soloist. I'm working my way through all the brands, but I'm itching to buy another Seydel.

I'd say go for the 1847 Classic or Silver (not the Silver +). Best OOTB harp I've ever had, and I own 9 of them (5 Classics, and 4 Silvers) so I know that they're VERY consistent. They also last MUCH MUCH longer than any of my other harps. The first one I got was an 1847 Silver in C about 2 years ago and it's STILL IN TUNE even though it's my main performance and recording C harp. I can't say they'll ALL be like that, but all 9 of mine have held tune longer than any of my other harps (most of which are newer) which made a believer out of me! The wood comb sounds a little warmer to me than the plastic, but they are fairly bright sounding. The Solist Pros are great as well, smooth sounding and a little quieter than the 1847, but they don't really outlast any normal brass reed harp.

Ive got two 1847's silvers in C and D. Played them probably five minutes. Just didnt care for them or the price. I would probably part with both for a poor mans fee.

I have a Session, an 1847, and two 1847 Silvers. The Session is too thick for my liking and my favorite of the three is the 1847. The Silvers are very loud, but I actually like the wood comb on the 1847. I slowly have migrated to a wood comb preference since I've tried the Suzuki Fire Breath. The only things I don't like about the 1847 are the price and the fact that the holes are significantly bigger than the harps I usually play (Manji, Bluesmaster, and Fire Breath). Otherwise both 1847's are dang fine harps.

Sorry to intrude, folks. Never played Seydels myself (maybe for the same reason as Delta Dirt) but my friends at The Harp Surgery are running this competition for Seydel Harmonicas. It's a piece of freakin' cake to enter, but the deadline's this Sunday.
Aluta continua, brothers.

I have a Solist Pro in A and absolutely love it. However, I have had it less than a year and I have already blown the 5 draw, 4 and 5 blow. All with small horizontal cracks close to the rivet end. I'm sure it is me that is the problem. I will definitely by more in the future.
