----------

Ive had a bad pain in my chest for over a week now, kinda like what i expect a heart attack to feel like. Ive ignored it thinking it must be something trivial, maybe trapped wind or heart burn.
Ive carried on playing although i did have to cut short a jam with a buddy of mine because of it. The final straw came the other day. I started off with a nice gentle jog to work off some holiday weight when the pain hit me suddenly. My wife was worried so she took me to the hospital. It turns out i had a punctured lung.
I dont know how it happened. Apparently it can just happen to young thin men (mainly in very tall men) Its kinda knocked me for six and left me in alot of pain not to mension shallow breathing. Ive played harp all through this although i am now resting and trying not to pick the harp up. I just hope im ok for the HPC 3.
Anyone else out there had a spontainious punctured lung?

Ant, no I've not. But, bruised ribs are pretty painful to play with. Anyway, leave your harps well alone and heal up properly before playing. There's still a month to go until HPC3. ---------- YouTube SlimHarpMick a.k.a. HarmonicaMick

Wow, that had to be a scare! Hope you make a speedy recovery. Once while in the second running leg of a duathlon I competed in years ago, I had a lung close up on me while running...I stopped, obviously, and it filled up normally again after a couple breaths. Scared the crap out of me. Chest congestion, I think. Ant, milk it for all it's worth with your wife, haha. ---------- ~Todd L. Greene, Devout Pedestrian

Wow. That's scary. Get better. I sneezed once and heard a pop and felt a sharp pain. The lung was ok, but the cartilage under my rib cage had caught on my rib when I sneezed and flicked, like your fingers do when you snap. It was pretty freaky and still pretty painful 6 months later. It was just after Sammy Sosa pulled his back sneezing and everyone was making fun of him. The human body does weird things. Feel better.

It is called a spontanious pneumothorax. Very common in thin young males and can be deadly if not treated. It turns into a tension pneumothorax. The main problem is that it can happen again. Be careful and good luck.

Whoa, 99...that's scary stuff. At the time, i fit the criteria:tall, thin and young. I'm still tall even though the others are less than accurate, and now I know I'm a survivor of spontaneous pneumo-hardword, too! Thanks. ---------- ~Todd L. Greene crescentcityharmonicaclub@gmail.com

i have had back problems on and off for years. when i'm ill with a cold, i have to be careful when i sneeze or cough or my back will go out. i hold my arms tight to my sides and drop my chin before i cough or sneeze and this seems to work best for me.
never punctured a lug but last summer i had an ear infection that ended up puncturing an eardrum! which has healed up again under a doctor's care.
i do happen to be a thin or average-180 lbs- 6 ft tall man but usually if i can't drive or walk there, i don't run.

Thanks for well wishes guy's it means alot. I feel better now, just the odd twinge of pain now and again. I couldnt resist playing some harp today(my wife stopped me playing for a couple of days, i think i scared her for a while), i kinda felt if i didnt play soon i would forget everything.
Thank you to 99 for telling me it was spontanious pneumothorax, i think the doctor told me that but i couldnt remember what the hell it was called when i left the hospital. ----------

Yes get better soon Ant but it's not worth damaging yourself further for the sake of your art. Hope you'll be able to make HPC3 OK. ----------
