It doesn't look all that different from the original design, but the gun-metal colored cover plates look bad-ass. The comb looks pretty cool too, they said it was a composite material right? I can't wait to get one.

Yes, they do look cool and modern--but not for the player who likes to use a rack!

I think they look the same thickness as the original design did, which I think they said wasn't any thicker than a GM. As for the comb, I thought they looked different at first too, but I think it's just because the one in back doesn't have light shining directly on it so it looks black.

Hi friends!

I had a few minutes and wanted to answer some of the questions posted here. BTW-I love this forum! Nice work Adam and to all of you that post here to make this a happening place to chat and learn! I read this forum often.
Thanks for your questions.
Ryan asked about the comb. The comb is the same material I used in my custom harmonicas. It is a composite made of mostly wood. The reason it looks different in each of the pictures (btw-it is the same harmonica in both pictures) is because the wood grain looks different from different angles. The mouthpiece (tines) of the comb seems to turn out more black compared to the top of the comb, in the back of the harmonica. The comb is not treated; it will gain a glossy finish as you use it. Pretty neat stuff!
Jon Sparrow commented that it looks really thick. The thickness is in-between a spec20 and an mb. We did redesign the covers a bit from the original B-radical. The tricky part was to make a change, but not a change that would give the instrument a new look. That was not an easy task! It took us about 14 redesigns, which meant 14 changes to the die that included a few new dies.
Ryan- The comb is the same. We made very small adjustments since we changed the cover design.

A little info on this harmonica. Much more information will be on the new web site in a couple of weeks.
My mindset when designing this instrument was to build the best performing harmonica plus solve problems with harmonicas. As a player I had always been bothered by some of the problems that I incurred. Such as, cover plates that crushed, (in the back of the harmonica) after playing.
B-radical covers sit on a shelf in the back of the harmonica. This makes the covers nearly crush-proof. (with normal play, don't run it over with your car and expect it to not be crushed!)
And of course, you can change your own FPT-9 reeds, individually!
These are just a couple solutions engineered in the B-radical. There a many more! I will have to wait to reveal them on our new web site. BTW- FPT-9 will be revealed on the new web site.

Happy New Year and thank you for all your support!

Thanks for the info Brad. Can't wait for mine to arrive. I signed up for the engraving so I realize it will take a little longer because of that being done. All is good.

well the thickness sounds good. cause i like the thickness of a marine band and a sp20 is still enjoyable too. so if its between those two then it should be nice.

For a newer player is it worth to go with a harp of this type of quality or should I stick with out of the box style.

If your a beginner, have the money and think you're in it for the long haul then the answer is yes. Otherwise stick with mid-priced harps. either way you need to buy several brands/models/keys to discover what works best for you.

Howling- That depends a lot on your budget. I agree with Ozark about working your way through a few brands. I've tried a few Hohners, a Seydel and Lee Oskars so far. It's probably more important to get a few more keys than an expensive harp.

New players tend to be pretty rough on a harp: using too much breath force. Stick with something a little less pricey until you get a feel for it.

Brad, Are there any plans for an ET tuned version of the B Radical? I mean in the future, since I'm sure you've got your hands full getting production going at the moment.

Happy New Year!

FPT-9? I wonder what that's all about? Reeds made of some new material - not brass - maybe? Brad you tease!

For $160 I thought this harp would stand up to my habit of running them over with my car. It's a damn shame!

Jon, I think you're on to something here...a harmonica made of Twinkies, possibly?? We should contact Hohner about this, there might be a contract in it...

At the risk of bringing back some bad blood (and that is by NO means my intention here) has anyone heard anything else about the B-Radical? Any updates, release dates...reviews? I'm chompin' at the bit for any kind of info. Thanks!

scrybe314 - I am thinking that at this point, they are going to have to play as good as the best customs because they have been pouring the hype out of buckets on us, and teasing us more than a Catholic school girl in gym class. You would think by now we would have seen more pics of the internal design, reed mounting, etc.

These guys ought to go into video gaming- so far they are experts at vaporware....

A harp that can overblow and overdraw out of the box, individually replaceable reeds (without having to retune or align?!), tone, volume, etc., etc., etc. Sure I am interested. Bit it's time to deliver. Either evacuate your bowels or vacate the commode already.

I haven't ordered a b-rad but I still check their site regularly just out of curiosity... They really have an outstanding buzzmeter going on there by seeing how many people of the world check by to see this one picture again and again from all over the world...

Randy, you have a way with words... :)
