So what are your wishes and promises for this new year 2010?

I will learn to play all the overbends smoothly within a melody, have my first gig with my band, customize all my harps and learn few jazz tunes too. I also decided to become- perhaps not this year but within few years - the best harp player in the northern Finland. ;-)

I work more on a day 2 day basis... cuts down on
the pressure and diappointment.
Tomorrow (well, actually 'today') I've been invited to jam with a rock band so I'll warm up the chops and
bring down the house.

That's the plan...

Sort of slacked off in practice in the past few months. I think it is due to when I got up on stage for the first time and could not hear myself play. Really hit me. Time to get back on the bike. Practice regularly or just give it up. So I will practice and perhaps get into a regular course to have a road to follow. Barret, Levy, or back into Harmonica Academy.

Happy new years everybody!

I don't know about New year's promises but I have a few hopes
1.) Get a new and better job. Not too much a choice here considering my department is being released by end of April.
2.) Move out of my parent's house. I really need to do this, haha. Following the success of bullet one I'll figure out bullet two.
3.) Hopefully meet a new girlfriend. This isn't all too important I actually like having the time to practice different hobbies unhampered.
4.) As far as practicing music I think I'm going to push myself harder to find a regular blues jam to play at. I'm quite sure there's a place in philly & lancaster I just got to get myself to go and check them out.
5.) Continue practicing playing music despite how it seems months will go by with only minute progress.

Ryan...Here's hoping that your hopes are realized !! Getting out and playing is a great idea. It will be hard at first...it was for me. But if you keep at it it will become easier. You will meet new friends and learn how to play within a group....it is much different than just jamming by yourself or with other harp players. I have seen some harp players that could blow the roof of with their solos , that could not fit in with a band. You have to know when to sit back and play fill, rhythm, and when to blast it !!

Good Luck !

True, don't underestimate the power of understatement with the harp! I have totally driven the rhythm section and introduced tension with some simple clucking on the beat (or even a little syncopated) while leaving tons of space for the keyboard or guitarist or whatever.

In response to a post on another thread, this is where one hole (like the 2 draw in cross) can be the leader of a groove and do everything from inciting a riot to panty removal.

I want to do volunteer work at a hospital and play music for sick children. Have you ever seen young childrens reaction to harmonica playing. They seem to love it and it puts a smile on their faces.
