a cool new harp amp is on its way. ok lets be truthful... i have not tried it out with harmonica..yet
i have tried it with guitar, and it has a very warm clean sound, which in my opinion is the secret to good tone.
this is the first tube amp i know of that can be ran without a speaker. it is a 5 watt amp head. and when used with a speaker it is loud! the idea is to use it to record direct to the computer. it has a redbox cabinet simulator... with a power attenuator which apparently works as a load box to make it work without a speaker. i have a gig in a week or so, the idea there is to use a line out and no back line just the monitor and to the front of house. there will be a factory rep on hand.. hopefully he will see to it i get a good mix. he will also be playing... he uses the 18 watt version with his guitar. you can see his demo on you tube.
not sure what type of interface i will need to use this with the computer. so if anyone has a suggestion, it will be greatly appreciated. i will post a sound file when i am up and running. i doubt it will replace my vintage champ but i have a reference standard to compare it to, very high hopes here. ---------- master po
I've used the H&K Red Box Pro DI for years and really like it. The analog cab simulator is very good. I'd be interested in hearing this amp! Hope you can post a video...
nope........ eventually .... i'd like to try tube swaps also the power tube is some type of a 12au7 variant the tubes are chinese ... may need some old rca mojo pretty clean sounding,it takes well with pedals it cant hold a candle to my champ. the champ is really simple ..turn it on put a mic in front of it and voila taste's better than ice cream the champ is more prone to feedback you almost have to try to make this amp feedback
there are several amps that are similar orange tiny terror the blackheart is almost the same set up as is the vox night train cept this one has the redbox cab simulator and a power soak. not sure if i can change the setting on the line out
all in all not a bad amp like new $215.00 dollars out the door. like new!
The Blackheart amps might make similar output, but their low wattage amps are single-ended like a champ. The H&K is push-pull, like the Kendrick So Lo 7, Blackstar HT5, Weinbrock Me-1/Hobo, Marshall J#M1 (to name just a few...there are many more) and half a dozen amps I have built. Push-pull should, in theory, overdrive in a smoother, less crunchy way...but it depends on the amp.
Does sound great for the price, the TAD Chinese 12BH7 sound pretty good even compared to my NOS Sylvania.
A lower gain preamp tube might help with the big signal that a harp mic puts out, when using the load box. ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness
The 12BH7 is what Mojotone loads up in their little Bedroom Amp kit. One of those might make a neat project to build something like the Tubemeister and fiddle around with your own power soak.
98798797987987bluesjam8212013champandhk by sharkair i posted this on the other thread also i have my champ mic'd up and a line out from the kettner i used my new lone wolf octave pedal this is a pretty aggressive tone i had to borrow a 58 to mic this up not the best choice, an audix cab grabber would be awesome,as would a 609 sennheiser i am not running the monitor, just not necessary this is at a jam session, the band used dynamics loud to soft.
when i was breaking down after the set a bass player comes up to me he says i saw that little amp head sitting on the champ.. and i thought it was a joke! he says i was laughing at you. until you started to play, he said it cut right thru
i had a little bit of an issue with feedback because a did not have a proper mic. i am surprised how well my fireball mic works on the speaker, i always thought of it as a 58 clone it is not. still it is not the best choice.. well it would be if i could mounted on the cab graber.
