Love or hate the Boss you gotta' give him a nod for his lyrical and melody writing ability. Personally speaking (and I never even been to Jersey...) he has written a couple of songs that touch me deeply => "You're Missing" & "One Step Up and Two Steps Back" not to mention "My City of Ruin." Thanks for the post Elwood. I'll admit Bruce is not much of a harmonica player, but neither is Dylan.
I too am a NJ native, and the Boss's drummer, Max is from my town. I was suppose to be in the glory days video, but got in an argument with the director and left. There are 2 sure fire ways to get your butt stomped in NJ - put down Sinatra, or the Boss. Personally, he is ok in my book. I have alot of good memories of his club gigs before he made it to arena rock levels. He was always an accessible guy then and really did capture the vibe of the NJ youth of the time. His early stuff is my favorite. After he moved to hollywood he stunk. Must be that NJ water :-) Walter ---------- walter tore's sponotbeat - a real one man band and over 1 million spontaneously created songs and growing.
I did not say he was terrible. Mellencamp is not terrible. I cannot listen to Streisand either, but she can carry a tune. His status in the music world does not equal his talent. I hear he is a nice enough guy. IN fact a lady I worked with was the girlfriend of one of his road team and she got seriously ill. He had her flown to Texas on his jet for specialized treatment. I have to give him that.
