Hi, I own a Epiphone valve jr (the 5 watt combo one). I also just bought myself a Lone Wolf Harp Attack pedal for taking to jam nights etc. I haven't used it out yet but have tried it out through a solid state bass amp which sounds great.

I also tried it through my Epiphone amp. It's not necessary at louder volumes as the Epiphone sounds great on it's own with the volume set at about 12 o'clock and above. However I have found it is very useful for reducing feedback and getting a better distortion at lower volumes.

My question is, is this bad for the amp?

The harp attack pedal already contains a tube, but I am worried about overdriving the tube in the amp with it.

I know nothing about electronics and would be grateful if anyone can help.

Many thanks. Baker.

It won't hurt the amp.

The extra distortion is being created by the HA pedal and is merely amplified by the amp, so yeah, what congaron says. It's not overworking the amp's tubes or anything like that.

Hey Baker - I've been thinking about getting that pedal. I'm real interested in your thoughts on down the road a bit, once the novelty has worn off.

Thanks everyone.

Jawbone, I'll post a review of it once I've given it a good try out.

Jawbone, I'm getting one too, and I'll post vids. I have played thru one(Randy Landry, the builder, lives an hour from me), and love them. Look on the Lone Wolf forum for some reviews, advice and vids, and Zack Pomerleau has a couple good vids as well.

Thanx guys - I'd love to see the vids, unfortunately, I'm on dial up and lately my computer is so darn slow it takes about a minute per second of down load, oh the joys of living in the boonies.

The Epiphone is a great harp amp, but you will find that only people standing directly in front of it will hear it. The pedal won't help there, but it might be worth trying to stand the amp at about chest level somehow.

I have the Harp Attack, and it's really good. The tone is rich and breaks up nicely, but not too over the top. I think the mic you use with it will affect it quite a bit (as with any amp). I use a 1950's white label CR and I've gotten more compliments on the sound since using the HA than when I was using my Fat Dog harp amp. I run it through a H&K Red Box DI direct to PA, although I'm picking up a Fender SS amp for smaller shows where running to PA is overkill. I'll keep you posted.

No problem, Zackster, I give credit where it's due...clean that room yet? ;-D
@ joshnat-I think we had a similar discussion several week back involving using the Red Box as a DI. Yes, I have one from way back, and I looked it over-it doesn't have a db cut, so if i ever ran into issues with too much distortion thru a PA it wouldn't help, but I am anxious to see how it sounds in 4X10 mode with the HA.

Additionally, I'm also about to get a Epi V Jr. and let Randy Landry do the mods for me on it. I have this little box called a FeedBlock from back in the '90s. I did use it back when I had a Bassman RI, and it made a bit of difference, but haven't had a use for it since. I woun't be getting a Kinder AFB+ on my budget, so maybe I'll hold onto the FeedBlock at least until I get my Epi Jr modded and see if it makes a difference.

Update on my above-mentioned feedblock device i got sometime back in the 90's probably from Kevin's Harps:trotted it out at my harp-building buddy's house-it's useless, except for maybe as a scale-model boat anchor.
