I've bought a used Marine Band from ebay to practice general work.
i've removed the coverplate, which scrubbed up well with the kaboom.
it looks as if the reed plates are nailed to the comb.
has anyone any advice on how to remove the plates from the comb?
if i make a pigs ear of it,i can make tools out of the reed plates.
i only paid £4 for it,so it wouldn't be a great loss.
i have been right through the archive but can't fond anything on this subject.

wiggle a really thin blade into the corner between the plate an the comb. then gently pry up then slide the blade over to the side, back, etc an gently pry up. pull out the nails, some will just pop out.

I simply use the small blade of a swiss army knife to apply leverage cautiously at each corner. Any flat tool will do, but do stay at the corner, it could otherwise ruin your reed.
Believe me or not, I also use a hammer to ressaemble.
