It's really freezing up here, couldn't even play harp when I drove to work as it was too cold to take my hands out of the gloves. No signs of the global warming here.. Perhaps the climate change is to the other direction?

I wonder if the harp would freeze to your lips if you'd go out there playing. And I don't dare to even think about the TB.. :P

Not seeing that global warming on my globe, either...mid-twenties here in NOLa tonight. Make sure you don't store those harps or mics in the cold!

I play outdoors all year, in Canada. My experience tells me that -5C is comfortable, but much below about -10C is too cold (and reeds freeze up). I play with gloves on, and can still get a decent seal on the cup. Cupping also keeps it warmer on the lips. I also use a lot of lip balm (Bert's Bees) before and after. So far it's not been cold enough here for me to stop playing... I'm in sunny southern Ontario.

where are you man..I'm sitting in UK with our coldest spell for 30 years and it went down to -5 at night with 4 inches of snow and that certainly ain't comfortable so&so.
the whole country is in chaos and the only people smiling are the kids.
Had a gig cancelled last night due to the extreme weather, and you guys are sweating it out in -32c
Respect to you from a British wimp:-)

Nick, I'm smiling too. I just love the snow. Makes a change for us to see some in the UK. Now if only we could get a few feet more! :-)

We've got friends who are Finnish, and they think it's funny that us in the UK complain if we get a little bit of snow :o)

kingley,

You're welcome to whatever snow comes my way. Shovel is around the back of the house.

@harmonicanick: Just go two hours to the east and then 1500 km to the north and thats about it.. ;) I live in northern Finland, still about 200km to go to the arctic circle.

@mr_so&so: I also play harmonica outdoors up till it's about -10C. However, I don't like the "taste" that comes from the gloves so I don't wear them as I play. And at this temperature I have to anyway wear gloves that are too thick to handle instrument this small.. I once spend few weeks in Vancouver and had a chance to downhill skiing for a day in the Whistler too. Those are beautiful sceneries you have there. In Finland we have just weary old mountains..

I am with you guys. It's 30C here, and I'm just looking vaguely at the palm leaves swaying under a cool breeze while sipping my rum.
How could you reasonnably practise your harp under these conditions ?

Nick, Yeah I have gone "ass over tit" as well, but the snow still makes me smile.

Honkin, Send it on over! :-)

I tried playing in gloves a couple months ago at a bus stop. If they had been regular skiing gloves it might have been ok, but they were my 'good' gloves, some sort of heavy cloth or suede or somethings. They were absorbent. They sucked all the moisture out of my lips. They also left a nasty taste in my mouth.
