My main band is doing the opening set for John Nemeth this Saturday. Kid Andersen is filling git, too! We get one hour to strut our stuff and warm the crowd. We're doing a mix of covers and originals ( I'm doing harp and singing one of mine: "Bad Haired Woman", a straight ahead Chicago shuffle. ) We have three other excellent soloists along with my harp, so we had to delegate parts tonight. I was going to leave my bass bugle behind, but the bandleader insisted I use it for our Bluesy/Funky rendition of "Why Don't We Do It In the Road".
I'm bringing two amps. Since this is a BIG hall, my main rig will be the tuned down and toned up Traynor YGL-3. I cleaned up all the guts and did a total pimp to the exterior: faux maroon leather vinyl on top and striped 4" on sides...top and bottom. Original nubby black tolex two tone. Black velourish grille cover with vertical cobraskin bands on each side. It is Effin' Beautiful...draws a crowd. Sexy, yet sophisticated. I bridged the channels, and the tube complement is wild: V1 (clean)=5814A, V2 (effects/dirty)=12AY7, V3 (tremolo)=12AX7A/7025, V4 (2nd gain PA)=6211, V5 (reverb)=6BQ5, V6 (phase inverter)=12DW7/7247 Mullard. I dime the vol & bass on ch.1 and 0 the mids & treble. Diming the 2nd vol gives great tone, but only bedroom volume. Setting the vol/gain @ 5, I can crank the MV to 4.5 and still have decent crunch with no feedback.
I plan on using this for the whole show.
HOWEVER, this is almost 40 years old, I call her Carmen, and she's been temperamental at times.
SO, I will also have the Blackheart Handsome Devil along as insurance.
Any within comfy distance of San Luis Obispo, come on down and enjoy!
Wish me luck and/or any suggestions.

Wow, Little Joe! That sounds like a fantastic gig. John Nemeth is one of my favorite fellows right now. The man's the best singer that I've heard in many, many years--and he blows the daylights out of a harmonica. Oh, and Kid Andersen! I watched him absolutely destroy a club audience in Houston with his guitar acrobatics as part of Rick Estrin's Nightcats. Just go out there and do your thing, Joe. AND report back as to how it went.

Thanks everyone.
Yeah, I plan on just having fun.
John has a great voice. Caught him here two years ago with Junior Watson. Saw Chris at the Little Fox a year ago, but could not stick around to hear him play. Had seen him tear it up when he was with Charlie Musselwhite.
