licks are dumb.

Pick up a C harp. Go to the store and buy a piano book on scales. Practice Db F# Eb Bb Ab to start.

You learn something about music in the process and will be forced to use OBs.

I've played the clarinet and bass guitar for 7 years and am studying GCSE and grade 5 theory, I dont need theory thanks, I know most of my scales, and dont want to play my jazz or classical as I do that on my other instruments, on harp I couldn't give a toss about dorian and mixolydian and intervals and transposition. All I want is the second position second octave blues scale which I'm sure I coiuld work out it would just be easier if you guys could help. Its just a hobby and any position except 1, 2 or 3 dosent interest me, while I know scales would improve my playing I'm a lazy shite and can't be bothered to practise them, :P.

"on harp I couldn't give a toss about dorian and mixolydian and intervals and transposition."

thanks for contributing to the advancement of the harmonica. If you don't give a toss about the instrument then why bother us for advice?

Misinterpretation big time, i love it, i said it myself, im to lazy to do it, i think its wonderful what people like adam and jason and yourself do for the instrument, hell, i bought one of your harps! I just can't or dont have the will or time to do it myself. No offence intended, but I'm not really in it for boundry pushing, as i'm not really talented enough, Im content to learn from better players such as yourself who do the advancement...

12 position doesn't take to much brainpower. I mean, I can do it.

its not about boundary pushing its about being a good musician.

If you've got your theory together then apply that.

In 2nd the 6OB is the minor 3rd, a hugely useful note.

I'm sure I ripped licks at one time but I don't recall. Around 1991 I used to slow down Levy's stuff and learn it but I quit with that around 1994 when I stopped listening to him and all other harmonica players.

I'm always listening to music from somewhere in the world so there is always something seeping into my head. But long gone are the days where I actually sat down to learn a lick from anybody regardless of instrument.

memorized licks are not musical as they are not created in the moment.

They may not be improvisational, but that doesn't mean they aren't musical. There are perfectly good words to describe music that is created in the moment. Musical is an important word. Don't go changing what it means on us unless you are going to offer a good replacement. :-)

Now where did I put that slithy tove.

Just a note regarding some of Buddah's comments...In the last couple of years, I've kind of gone the same route. I hardly every tab out stuff, but rather listen to a ton of music and let it seep in.

Typically, I only practice scales, techniques, and overall tone. There just came a point where I decided I'd rather hear it all happen than try and plan it all out.

I am an improv junkie!!!
