Danelectro P B & J equalizer pedal (The best cheap eq you are going to find), Fender Starcaster Chorus(now defunct, and to be gutted and replaced with an octave down circuit), Danelectro Fab Echo (modded for adjustable delay time and infinite repeats). All in my own DIY powered pedal board.

This rig will likely be replaced by a Digitech RP 155 in the very near future.

That amp is an "isaacullah special" 18 watt with twin matched vintage 8" speakers. Only one production run of one amp was ever done (model year 2009), and unfortunately, the one known model was destroyed. Fortunately, it was cannibalized and rebuilt into the even more badass "isaacullah deluxe", which is a two channel 20 watt beast sporting only one vintage 8" speaker, and sounds way better. Where did the other 8" speaker go? Who knows, maybe it will resurface sometime in 2010?

If you really do want to make an amp, start small. This one is really simple and could be built by anyone with a nearby radioshack. It sounds baddass too. You'll just need to get some small speakers. Old casset recorders and TV's are great sources.

I'm too lazy to take a picture right now, but I found one online. This is a vocal pedal I bought that I've re-purposed for harp.

I have a little Park amp that I bought at a garage sale and a couple Shure Prologue mics. I'm planning on upgrading my computer in the near future. I was thinking about getting a Yeti microphone, but I have no idea if that would work well for what I need. (It's a THX computer microphone.)

My set-up is basic, a Laney HCM60W amp and a Boss DD3 delay pedal (ala Gussow).

I have lots of guitar effects, being a guitarist, but I just prefer a loud overdriven harp sound with that touch of delay.

I will buy HarpGear amp.......when my money tree is ready to harvest !!!

here's mine

that's an Aslin Dane amp that I was bought as a present, a Behringer EM600 pedal and an Eggstatic mic. the case is an old laptop case I think [bought scondhand] with an mdf box in the centre to stop the spare harps rattling about - the pedal lives there as well. The harp case is from a set of Hohner Bluesband harps but the harps in it are a mixture of Lee Oskar, Bluesmaster and Bushman. The boxes in the big case hold the bluesbands as spares. the right hand side of the case holds leads, the mic and the 'egg' shaker. The case also has lots of pockets for tabs, and other lesser used things like reels of tape, bits of string, jack plug adapters, business cards, torch, ... etc etc etc.
One day I intend to get a green bullet and replace the amp, but I'm not sure what with [mirocube?] and being short of pennies it will have to wait, although I am considering building a noisy cricket or similar.

All I use is stock harps and blow and sing through the same mic. Here is my case. Sonny Terry gave me the harps on it. Walter

isaacullah, I like the look of the Cricket. I had a go at designing an op-amp circuit with tube-emulating variable compression, but realised that my idea would only work on the positive half-cycles, and didn't bother working out the circuitry for the negative ones (as I'm not likely to build it). I like the idea of an op-amp with built-in gain limitation that can be altered by an external resistor. It all amounts to the same thing as determining the gain yourself on the old-fashioned chips, except that it is neater at the basic circuitry level.

Yeah, I've built the cricket and a few other lm386-based amps. It's a good, inexpensive, and easy-to-find chip to fool around with. One can even make a decent bridged amp with two of them and get a couple of watts out of it... The cricket sounds really quite good...

I love that case, Walter!

Last night, John Nemeth only played thru a HarpGear II, tilted in a stand, and miced. No effects that I could see, but it was LOUD and great tone.

I used my Traynor, Carmen. Channels bridged, variaced down to 115 volts, did one more tube swap: V2 (dirty) = 6211 tri-mica, and V4 (2nd gain) = 12AY7 Sylvania LBP's. Cab miced, but really didn't need it. Dimed Vol & Bass ch. 1, channel 2 set gain @ 9 and only 1 on Master Volume!
Set the internal reverb at barely 1, and tremolo full intensity/half speed. Sounded frickin' awesome.

Pedal chain right to left: Line 6 Digital Wireless XDS95 ==>
Boss GE-7 EQ pedal ==>
DeltaLab DD1 Digital Delay pedal ==>
BBE Sonic Stomp pedal=>

The most important effect in the chain is this: Custom 5F2H amp

I am waiting on a Pedal Train Mini, but here is the effects rig I used on a few for recording a NiteRail album that will be released in February.

Ultimate 57 > Micro Pog > BBE Two Timer > HarpGear Double Trouble

On my Mini I also plan on including a wireless and Maxon AF9 after everyone in the band demanded I get one after listening to Buddah's effects vid whilst in studio.

I have a Kinder AFB, but hardly use it. Since getting the Double Trouble, I have used it dry when playing live. However, I like delay too much.

This is the setup I am using now and love, love, love the sound it produces... it's a special 20, a Dano Daddy O, a Strnad Harp mic and a 50's Gibson tube amp... I think this setup is on the edge of self destruction, as the tone is amazing... The amp by itself has almost no volume.. but when hooked up with the Daddy O, it screams!!!

Just wish I could play harp better...

Tonegod, I had a 1947 Gibson BR6 amp that I REALLY regret selling. It was a primitive circuit with a field coil speaker and a bit of a hum, but it had the coolest tone without any effects.

It had two 6V6 power tubes and it was loud! It originally sold as a set with a lap steel guitar. Wish I had the amp back...

Here is a pic of me playing my little 1971 Fender Champ on Monday.

This little screamer needs NO effects. In fact, that would ruin the tone. It is heavily tweaked for harp by me and by the wizards at Mission Amps.

But... having said that, tone is better from my regular gig rig; the 5F2H snakeskin amp and pedal board.

Hey Rick, very cool... yeah this is a BR 9 amp... and it is amazingly quite, so I am sure something is wrong with it, but afraid to try to fix it or even get a pro to fix it as I love the sound.. I am playing in the International Blues Competition next week in memphis and hope it holds up.. maybe after that I will try and fix it and see if I can get more volume out of it... This is the 3rd older gibson I have had, but none of them sounds like this one.. but never tried a pedal with them either like the daddy O..

When you are comfy working on it, first get some elec. parts cleaner and work on all connections, especially the volume pot and tube sockets with tubes pulled. Then lube the pot.
I did this with my '41 Gibson EH-125 and it was amazing how much it opened up.

Then see if you can find a good pair of late '50s-early '60s 6V6GT's RCA or GE clear bottles.
These sound the best. I have a set of Raytheons that are way louder, but the distortion is over the top.

Thanks Little Joe.. Yeah I just put some new tubes in her thinking that might make a difference, less hum but not more volume... It's a pretty simple amp to work on, but again afraid my fat fingers will take the Mojo away!!!

Sorry to go back to an earlier point in this thread, but here you can buy a fully assembled LM386 amp module for less than 8 bucks: http://mintyamps.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3. Add a battery snap, switch, and speaker, and throw it in a repurposed enclosure (ie. a cigar box), and you'll have a bitchin' little practices amp for prob less than $15 total. It's the same chip and a basically the same circuit that's used in the ridiculously overpriced "smokey" amps that us harp folks seem to love so much... Just a thought anyway...

Bluzdude, cool gear. Gary Smith told me he loves the
Epi Valve Jr. half stack... said it was the best sounding small rig for harp he'd ever heard right out of the box.

BTW, I have the cab (not the head) and I use it sometimes with my Masco ME-18. Sounds killin'.

Just got this board yesterday...I haven't even got the power supply hooked up or the right patch cables on board. The only thing I'll add is a Maxon AF 9 or Boss AW 3. I think I can get it all to fit.
