Hi All: I am still on my playing the drums in a standard kit set up. I did this one tonight and is my third song playing the drums this way! We found a stray hound dog a couple summers ago. A long story short we have been trying to find him a home to no avail. He attacked the neighbors cat the other day. This coupled with his need to follow his nose, makes keeping such a dog in the village is a bad set up. We gave him up to the humane society yesterday. Today Judy, our other 2 dogs, cat and me, were missing Emmie real bad. He is a sweet dog that was raised on 45 acre farm. He is use to running all day and coming home when he is tired out. He had a micro chip in him when we found him The farmer lost his farm and kind of had a mental breakdown. He just turned the dog loose and we found him. Living on a 60'x60' city lot, with car traffic all around was going to get him killed. The humane society said they have a potential person to adopt him. He has a big farm and he could run. We are praying he makes it there. We never gave up a dog before. I have been involved in collie rescue for 10 years. We are the ones that take in all the strays, but we never had a hound dog before. Please spay and nueter your pets. Walter

There's something wrong with me. I have more empathy for dogs than I do for people. (But, yes I do have empathy for people, too.)

A couple of years ago, we found a dog roaming the streets. He was obviously lost and distraught. We tried to find his home. No luck, so he's our dog now. We took him to the vet for a checkup and shots and stuff. He had heartworms and would have died in a year or so. We got that taken care of. He was about two years old, then.

We bought him a puppy. Such a happy family! Now he has hip dysplasia in one hip. ~$3,000 to fix it. So near, yet SO far. :(
Mack's a dog. He'd die for me. What can I do for him? nuthin'. It kills me.

I've only had a couple of other dogs in my life. Oh, the bond. Dogs are family; not property.

Got a song for our four-legged family members, Walter?

We unfortunately lost our dog yesterday. He was a rescue dog. A border collie/ jack russel cross. He passed peacefully at the age of 12. We took him to the pet crem today. Damn I miss him. R.I.P. Doogie Milo

hi gene: dog is god spelled backwards......... Thanks for rescuing dogs! This was our first time giving up a dog and it really tore us up. He tried hard to fit in, but his nose drives him. He had to roam everyday or was totally miserable. Living in town was a disaster waiting to happen. He was an expert at escaping and our home/lifestyle just isn't set up for that. We have been adopting strays for 35 years and all our dogs have stayed close. We also never had a hound dog before. We have no children and our dogs have taken their place. I use to tour in a 40 foot bus that carried our dogs, cat, and my wife. That was living. You can hear the lost dog song at the soundclick site below.

Luke Juke: I am sorry for your loss. Walter

We are rescue-prone folks as well. We have three cats that we found, abandoned, in a very rural spot, and left to die. If we had not chose to walk that way on the day we found them, they would certainly have died in the summer's heat before the next day. I have often said that Messrs. Smith and Wesson got together just so folks like us would have a way to deal with people who were gutless enough to abandon an animal to die like that. They were three weeks old when we found them, bottle fed them for a few weeks, and they are now 7½ years old.

But out passion is German Shepherds. Yesterday we began adopting our 4th (#1 was from the Humane society, #2 through a rescue group and we drove about 1000 miles round trip to get her, and #3 was a local rescue group). This one is owned by a friend that doesn't have the time to properly care for him as a GSD deserves and needs. We will have two GSDs living with us again. Nothing like them. I am not religious at all, but I have often said that if there is a God he lives in the eyes of a German Shepherd.

I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a dog, please contact your local Humane Society or rescue group for the breed you are interested in.

I would gladly trade all the furniture in my home to have my first GSD back again. I have a bumper sticker at home that says, "My German Shepherd was Student of the Month at xxx" [xxx=the name of our local elementary school, name withheld to protect the inbred]. He was more intelligent, loving and loyal than just about any person I have ever met, with very few exceptions. He taught me more about dogs than any book I have ever read.

Luke Juke: So sad to hear. The dog I just mentioned above died in my arms having seizures after I had resuscitated him twice using mouth to mouth. I finally had to tell him to rest and go to sleep because I could see in his eyes he was gone. They don't live half as long as they deserve, but "better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all"- great quote, even though he wasn't a harp player, but he could sure write blues prose.

Nice Photo.

We have three dogs - all rescues. We also have two bunnies and three guinea pigs.

We sometimes volunteer to transfer a dog or two from the humane society to a quieter shelter two hours away. These are dogs that are slated to be put down but get accepted at the last minute by a shelter for lost-causes (see narc-charity.ca). Sometimes, we get to keep them for a day and get to know them before we have to drop them off. Really and truly, all dogs are awesome. Some of the ugliest, most miserable looking dogs turn out to be sweet and full of potential.

@waltertore and @randy. Thank you for the sympathy and you both have my fullest sympathies. I have no children of my own and am completely a doggy person. Doogie loved the harp amplified. When I plugged in he'd come into the room and lie down near the amp. I think we'll go without a dog for a while but our next dog will be another rescue dog.
