I have loved the Captain's stuff over the years; and now Don, it is rumoured has MS and dosent get out anymore.
But here is a clip of the Magic Band with John French (aka Drumbo) taking the vocals and harmonica on 'Circumstances' off the Clear Spot album

John has just published a book entitled 'Through the eyes of magic' about his 13 years of creating with Beefheart and the insults and verbal bullying he withstood but was always drawn to Beefheart like 'a moth to flame'

Hated it. Ok, ok, didn't like it. Watched it all the way through expecting it to go somewhere, never did. Harp at the end was tolerable, that little blow draw thing in the middle was terrible.

Beefheart has been a living skeleton for a long time now, possibly almost 20 years - I saw a documentary on telly a long while back, and pictures of him are pitiful. If you look at his website, none of his paintings postdates about 1995 (from memory).
I've got a DVD docu of Beefheart, and John French's contribution to it seems pretty pretentious to me.
