First self-youtube ever. Playing "I guess thats why they call it the blues" solo on my new chromatic (started last xmas).
Would love some feedback!

I apologize for shitty quality, I only used the mac built-in mic.

Sounds awesome... damn it! I need a chromatic. It's really getting to be quite a craving feeling.

That sounds nice, CJ. It would be a good addition to YT if you did a version that's a bit longer. BTW, the sound isn't too naff on my netbook.

Yeah he is THE best chromatic player. Thought i'd just try play some of them. It's even more intense when you buy your first one - its really technical and important looking!

CJ,

Nice piece of work. You'd probably make a few quid busking that stuff with a backing track or guitar player.

I've got to disagree with you there. I wouldn't label Stevie as the absolute best (I'd have trouble labeling any one player as the best) but he most definately is in the same class as those guys. Stevie has managed to create his own unique, and easily identifiable, sound on the chromatic. His sheer technical skill on the harp is amazing, he's definately a world class virtuoso on the chromatic.

I agree that the guys you mentioned are fantastic players and anyone interested in chromatic harp should check them out, but you definately shouldn't underestimate Stevie's ability on the harp. I've seen videos of both Toots and Larry Adler talking about just how impressed they were with Stevie's playing and they both named him as one of their favorite chromatic harp players.

You should check out the album he recorded under the name Eivets Rednow (Stevie Wonder spelled backwords), it's called "Alfie", the whole album is Stevie playing harmonica instrumentals.

Hey Guys, Sorry what i should have wrote was "In my Opinion" - i thought this might stir up some controversy down the track.

Manky, I do listen to toots i think he's fantastic but Stevie just does somthin for me. Can't say i'm a fan of Larry Adler's style however. I shall check out tommy rielly though!

Ryan, The Eivets Rednow album is freakin awesome. Wasn't the album itself entitled Eivets Rednow too? and "alfie" was just the stand-out 'single' type track?

Thankyou everyone for your kind words

Actually yes I believe this is correct. If you look at the album cover it says Eivetsn Rednow along the top and lower down it says "Alfie" in big pink letters. Many people took this to mean that this was the title of the album, but if one looks closer they'll notice it says "featuring" in small letters above Alfie (alfie is actually a Burt Bacharach song). You'll still often find different sources that list the title of this album list as alfie. I was actually told that this was the name of the album when I first heard about it. I later became aware this was incorrect, but I guess it just completely slipped my mind when I wrote the last response.

Great job dude, i've never liked the look or thought of playing a chromatic before, but after watching your video it looks like a blast.

You got me thinking now...
