What is a Bushman harmonica?
Is it made in the USA or assembled here?
Is it just another brand with the
Bushman name on it?

I tried to find out once on the Bushman
site and my post got pulled.

There are two models: The Soul's Voice, which is made by Seydel in Germany and the Delta Frost, which is made by Suzuki. Both are made to the Bushman specs.

Yes absolutely - I recall the very high profile court cases... NOT.

Whatever spin the parties involved want to put on it, Seydel make the Soul's Voice and the almost identical Weltmeister Blackbird.

How did Bushman reedplates came to have welded reeds, like every other Suzuki model? - If we believe Hall's spin, Suzuki 'stole' the design and then upgraded the tooling across their entire production line? I don't think so.

Isn't the Delta Frost a Suzuki Harpmaster comb and covers with a Suzuki Bluesmaster reed plate? That was my take on it. I use Delta Frost. Best out of the box harp in my opinion. I suppose the Suzuki Bluesmaster would play the same as the Delta Frost.:)

@Ray@ I have both and swear thay are one and the same thing but others on here are able to detect a "subtle" difference which must be just outside my hearing range.
The cover plates on the Delta Frost and Harpmaster are slightly different in the design of the openings at the back but look to me as though they come out of the same factory.

@pharpo, WARNING : Harpdepot is a rip-off company, cash the money, don't send the goods, never reply to email. That's my personal experience which is, according to previous threads here and on other forums, shared by many. Just DON'T do business with them.

The delta frost in nothing like the bluesmaster. I have both and in my opinion the bluesmaster isn't near the harmonica that the delta frost is. Never had a harp master so can't comment on that one.
I play mostly souls voice which I really like.
If you want a souls voice or any other harmonica for that matter, Rockin Ron's music for less is the place to get it. Prices include shipping and they are fast at getting your order out. I have nothing to do with Rockin Ron's other than the fact that I have ordered from him a couple of times and was very impressed.

@Sarge....Have not spent any $$ there. Was trying to inquire about a Souls Voice....I had heard some good things about them. So I sent them a couple of emails inquiring and even called the on the phone.....Never got an answer on either device. I DON'T THINK HARP DEPOT EVEN EXISTS.

One thing I forgot to mention concerning the souls voice is that it is ji tuned. I believe it's 19limit ji. The style I play seems to work much better with a ji harp.

Yes indeed..if they would all just quit it and go play their harps it would free you of having to constantly run defense so you could play your harps too!
I think the trouble is that this is such a compelling and fascinating story!

A ukulele/ harmonica salesman with no engineering degree and no technical drafting skills managed to somehow design the intricate comb and coverplates and also to pioneer the groundbreaking innovation of spot welding reeds to a reed plate instead of the time tested riveting method of reed fastening along with the use of a new reed alloy.

Added to that news, this salesman's brainchild was so irresistible that a major corporation that already had considerable talent in engineering, drafting, metallurgy, moldmakeing, model making and product design departments was seduced into stealing that design and converting their entire manufacturing process over to it to produce a multitude of harmonica models in its image including the Suzuki presidents namesake...The Manji.

It is remarkable that the salesman was so trusting and naive that he neglected to patent or safeguard any of his original ideas or his hard work and engineering at the drafting board.

No sir... to ask folks to remain silent about this legend...

John Hall is a creative, inspiring person. He has put together a universe few independent instrument makers can top. He has his harps, bean blossom festival, club, book he wrote, and is always coming up with new ideas. He goes full speed ahead with them right out of the gate. I love that about him because it reminds me of how I do music. I am sure he pisses some people off, but I have met him, played his festival, and can say he is a warm and caring person with tons of passion. He gave me a shopping bag full of harps, put me up in his house, fed me, paid me good, and catered to my wanting to open the festival because my 1 man band rig takes time to set up. I love playing festivals, but hate the frantic rush vibe they have with getting on and off the stage. He wanted me to go on before the headliner, and said no problem to me opening the day. Long live guys like John Hall because the music business is full of conservative, medicore, uncreative minds, that fear failure like the plague and want fame at most any cost. Walter

pharpo,
The souls voice is the only harp I have in my case except for my chromatic and a chordomonica. I really like the souls voice. I think it bends easy and never chokes up on me.

santa! do you know what it cost to get a patent on something you design? You had better build and sell alot to recover the cost of a patent.

You buys your harps, you buys your reed plates, you look at the matching reed plate holes, You over look the BS about the secret formula , the country of origin, and the secret reed material, welded reeds vs riveted reeds , put them all together if they fit , play that sucker and make your own decisions.
