I usually can tell who the decent harp players are but I can't figure out who the player is in this video

Don't know the tune, but to my ears it sounds like Paul DeLay tone wise, he has some awesome chops too so could be him.

I doubt it is Harper. Probably unknown regional player.

The tone sounds like it could be Mark Ford.

It's definitely not Sugar Blue or Paul Delay. Mark Ford is a better guess; I've only heard Harper once, but on the basis of that, I wouldn't rule him out either.

The playing isn't bad, and obviously there's a lot of energy and technique here, but what I don't like is that the triplets don't quite work at that fast tempo. If you think I'm being overly picky, slow down the track. You'll hear all the mistakes. I haven't slowed it down; I can hear the mistakes, or feel them, at this tempo.

Not bad, though. The repetitions work well to make it a coherent piece.

Good find, Chris.

This is Harper:

Harper has similar speed, but his blue thirds are all over the place. Chris's guy is better than that.

Right. Not Harper's licks, either, nor his style really.

It's certainly not Mark Ford or Andy Just.

I would agree that it's most probably some regional unknown player.

I'm bad at identifying fast players. To me they all sound the same. Popper, Sugar Blue etc. I find myself comparing harp styles to bikes. Popper, Blue ect sound to me like japanese bikes. High reving, to me annoying. Wilson, Piazza, Sagado sound to me like a big V "Twin", like a Ducati or Harley, thumping, soul stirring. The more I learn about harmonica the more I like the "less is more", and focusing on tone approach.
Just my opinion.
