Skip James - I'd Rather Be The Devil : The Legendary 1931 session

He's one of my favorite bluesmen, surely with the most hypnotic blues sound I know. And a fantastic guitar player too.

The JOB recordings with Johnny Shines and Big Walter Horton. The harp lines that Walter plays in this album are just pure unadulterated genius.

Some guy on the phone bitchin' and moanin' about his late shipment and.....

Son House.

I can listen to SH all day. His slide attack is fantastic and his voice is raw. This is after his return to music and I've been told that his earlier stuff is even better.

Right now I am listening to freeway noise through my office window... But on my last commuting opportunity I listened to Vince Gill, Brahms for clarinet, and Kid Ramos (a CD called Greasy Kid Stuff with the likes of Paul deLay and Charlie Musslewhite), and Gary Primich. Yes, I have a long commute that offers reading and music opportunities...

The best blues improvisation I've ever heard on a high harp. F in 2nd position.

I'm currently listening to Dr. John's first album 'Gris-Gris'. If you've never listened to it do yourself a favour and buy it. Lie in a dark room with headphones on and soak it all up.

Today I listened "Two Trains Running" from Dave Peabody & Brendan Power, and it's one of the best blues albums I ever heard.

Lee, I'm actually also listening to Dr John. Album : "Duke Elegant", Ellington's standards played in New Orleans funky style. Risky challenge, maybe not everyone's taste, but I'm impressed.

@saregapadanisa - That sounds as if it would definitely be my thing. I'm going to buy it. I love both Ellington and Dr. John.

Also listening to this. I'm a sucker for Baritone Sax.
