i've had just one effort at gapping that didn't seem to improve the harp that much. all 9 of my SP20 are strictly OOTB.i want to gap the lot,so my take on this, having seen joe spiers YT video's,is, take the reed down until it stops playing, then back it off until it plays freely.a little like wheele bearings. i've tried overblowing and gotten a squeal out of a couple of 6 holes.i'm not saying that it's the harps,i just want to gap tight for overblows, starting on the D harp. i'm sorry to be doing yet another thread about gapping, but on joe's video's,when he was testing a hole,it sounded fine to me,but he did some more adjusting. i'll shut up now.

Hey Manky, not gapping but if you recall you were talking about getting a small digital voice recorder/dictaphone for recording practice sessions. Well I got one at christmas time. It was only £5.99 from Argos on eBay. The sound quality isn't all that good but ample for just catching the odd genius riff we pull off occasionally. I was also concerned about finding tracks and that is not a problem either. In fact faster than my small cassette model. It has 28 hours record time in LP mode and powered by 2 AAA cells. Just thought I'd let you know in case you were still thinking about it. Oh! and it's only a little bit bigger than a harp. If you need further info let me know.
Mind the Gap!

in my experience sp20's dont really need gapping done unless you want to overblow. even then some still will overblow OOTB. mine are all pretty consistent an air tight. ----------

hi jon,my daughter in law gave me an olympus micro recorder which is just pefect for what i want. i can't overblow jon,i go bach to chromatic to play melody stuff because of the missing notes. i do all the bends well, but not one overblow. i may be expecting too much of myself, but as every harp player should be able to at least be able to do gapping,i think it's about time i joined those that can.
