Contest usually are made mostly for the benefit of who's running it. Simon Cowell, Verison, ATT etc. Those 24 million calls to vote are charged at 50 cents a pop. The contestants get something but it pales in comparison to the corporate profits.
Sometimes it's just to get advertising that a company can't afford on their own. Imagine hundreds of videos with your companies name in the tag and titles on youtube.
This brings me to what is HPC3? I'm not sure what it really is and what I would be supporting. What is given in return for peoples work. It doesn't seem completely clear as to what the rules are. Will it help sell a product and part of the profits go to help earthquake victims? Is it just for money? Is it just for fun? Will it raise harmonica awareness?

It is just for fun. It never actually struck me that anyone would think otherwise.
Go back through the archives and look at the first two HPCs.

HPC3 = Harmonica Playalong Contest No.3
@Diggsblues@ "What is given in return for peoples work?"
Not sure what you mean by this. Are you suggesting entrants should be paid? How much do you want? It is run on a purely voluntary basis by people who love harp playing. Payment is not expected or sought.
@Diggsblues@"It doesn't seem completely clear as to what the rules are?" Click my signature banner for full details.
@Diggsblues@"Will it help sell a product and part of the profits go to help earthquake victims?"
No, it will not help sell a product and there will be no money for an earthquake fund, it was organised way before the earthquake. @Diggsblues@"Is it just for money?"
No money is involved.
@Diggsblues@"Is it just for fun?"
Yes.
@Diggsblues@"Will it raise harmonica awareness?"
Doubtful, as it's only of interest to those who play the harmonica already, but it may generate a little interest in those who see our videos on YouTube whilst surfing, and it may just make this forum more popular with other harp players who are not aware of this forum.
Once again, click my signature banner for more information. It should all be clear.
