Last night I went to a local Blues Jam in town. Scott Berberian was there with one of his new Meteor amp models. ( Meteor with 1X15 ). What a beast. Crunchy.... and did not have to be put through he PA. Blasted through like a hot knife through butter. I guess he is doing a 2X8 model as well. Any body here ever used a Meteor ? ---------- Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. Meteor amps have a great reputation, and they deserve it. I recommend them very highly. I've played them, and a good buddy of mine -- a very good player in St Louis -- raves about his. ---------- -Rick Davis Blues Harp Amps Blog Roadhouse Joe Blues Band

I know they are pricey...but all the "boutique" amps are. I could never afford one...but playin harp is only a hobby for me not a full time job. I was just trying to hear some other opinions. I have only ever heard good things about them. Never heard a bad word about them ever. Personally I have never played through one though.

I actually have two of them. I bought the first one (50 watts, 2x10" 1X12")before Scott came out with the "mini". I only use the Mini now (the one with 2x8" 1X10", I'd love someone to do a comparison of the two minis.) I've played through almost every other botique and I personally find the "mini" the best. Even at low volume its perfect. Guitarists use the phrase "touch sensitive". I think this applies to the Meteor. You don't have to blow the reeds off the harp to get great tonal response. I've yet to need the line out. With the 6L6's its plenty loud. My only complaint is that its still too heavy. I'm getting too old to be yankin' that thing outta my trunk.

Pluto - thanks...I have played through the 50 watter and the 15 inch (maybe 35 watts ?) they are both bears. Have not had the pleasure to use one if the mini's. Maybe he will bring one out the next time. While I have not played through a lot of different amps. (59 bassman, premier twin 8, Blues jr) these were far better than any of them. ---------- Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. Hi,I,ve owned the 50 watt Meat for 4 years now and am very pleased.Originally when I had recieved it it took me a little bit to dial it in,which of course is the case with alot of new amp purchases I,m sure. The one problem I had was feed at low vol.,but realized that it was caused by the mid knob which is basically turned all the way down when using. When I contacted Scott he told me that when Mark Hummel purchased his a couple of years prior to mine that he had put it aside for awhile until he finally dialed it in.I believe that the choice on one of these amps should depend on what type of band that you are playing with.In my case I play with guys that are out of the rock vein and tend to crank things up as the night goes on.The drummer hits harder, the guitars get louder, egos get hurt when asked kindly to cut back especially on more laid back dynamic style blues,Muddy,LW,Jimmy Reed etc.Our 1 g-man plays through a classic 30 which is fine and very appropriate. Our other g-man decided that his 40 watt Vox wasn,t doin it and he shows up with a brandy new 100 watter,Oh Geesus, unfortunatly I,ve got to take what I can get as for there aren,t that many blues, blues players in my area.My advise would be again what type of band are you going to be using it in,size of venues etc. and I,m thinking that if they were avail. at the time of my purchase I probrably would have considered the mini with the line out feature.I havn,t tried one but I,m thinkin that it would be more versital especially for more laid back gigs, smaller rooms, etc. In my case sometimes the 50 is a little too much in smaller venues, although I,ve got a Kali(with a line out),and SF Princeton for those situations.I,d love to play through one of those Mini 15,s,I,ll bet they,ve throw a mean punch.
