I have one of these but I am dissapointed in the sound which, to my ears, is tinny and harsh.
It says on the box it has a 'Hot Crystal Element'
It is a High Z mic

My question is, is it possible to modify or change the element to get a warmer richer sound?

any help appreciated..

Nick

Yes Homon,.if you can fit a Shure Commando 415 - 420 Controlled Magnetic element in it ya rollin in the bluz,.if you can't get a Commando CM element try lookin for a small dynamic to fit ,..there are many good elements out there,.I'd stay away from any crystal or ceramic element

Nick, unless you're really into the shape and feel of the mic, I wouldn't bother trying to mod it. Just sell it on and get either a bullet mic (if you like that style) or a good stick mic (545 or RE10).

I'm a bit partial to the Sonotone ceramic. The one I have I use to go direct to PA Systems when I sit in with Friends, crank the bass lower the treble and it sounds really good and whole. That's a good deal.

I have a 420 Commando. I'm not impressed with it for harp. It's very bright and lacks bottom end.If you look at the frequency response graph on Shure's website, you'll see this big peak around 3K. I think that's the problem. Too bad,it's really small and easy to cup.
