So if my amp has a 16ohm stock speaker that I'd like to replace, I need a 16ohm replacement, no? Or is 8ohms an option?
(it's for a VHT Special 6, and I know there is a ton written and posted about modifying them, but I'm confused on this point and would like to confirm before I order a new speaker. Lil Buddy, I think)

There is a switch in the back for using different ohm speaker(s), right?

I’m not positive but I believe the 4-8-16 ohm switch on the back only applies to the external cabinet outputs. I think the internal speaker is fixed at 16ohms.

Nope: no switch. It has 4, 8, and 16 ohm speaker out jacks, but nothing to change the load of the internal speaker.

When you plug in an external speaker does it cut off the internal speaker, or does the internal speaker stay on, too? This is important!!!
If plugging in an external speaker cuts off the internal speaker, then there is a workaround I used on a different amp.
With everything off and unplugged, of course, you replace the internal speaker with the speaker of your choice, but do not use the wires for the internal speaker. The internal speaker wire ends should be separately taped with electrical tape and tucked out of the way.
Using speaker wire and a right angle 1/4" plug, connect just enough wire to reach the jack labeled for the impedance of your new speaker. I soldered speaker wire with the plug to the tabs on the new speaker. Plug it in to the correct jack and you can turn on the amp and play.
Always have a speaker connected before turning on your amp.
THIS ONLY WORKS IF THE INTERNAL SPEAKER WIRES DISCONNECT WHEN YOU PLUG IN AN EXTERNAL SPEAKER!
IF PLUGGING IN AN EXTERNAL SPEAKER DOES NOT DISCONNECT THE INTERNAL SPEAKER, DON'T DO THIS! ----------

The Eminence Legend comes in 16ohms, so maybe that is a better option?
