Good show, Grey Owl. I always liked that JJM disc with all the various styles that can profit from a diatonic harmonica well played. (Rue Doisneau is the one where a Dixie band steps in, isn“t it?) Ironically, this record did not sell at all, according to JJM.
Thanks very much Nate, Spderyak, Martin. The Captcha free zone is still holding Nate:) Yes, Martin, that's right. I'm surprised this didn't sell, it first featured on the Routes CD in 1995 I believe and there were some good songs on the album. I only picked up on JJ and this track on his Harmonicas compilation double CD which is excellent.
He is a very good writer of strong and interesting melodies and he plays a variety of music genres to a very high standard.
He is also a knowledgeable blues historian. He does a 30 minute weekly blues radio show called "Bon Temps Roulez" on TSF Jazz. It is also available in Podcast form on iTunes. He does a great job of looking back through history and connecting different artists, sub-genres, and influences over the years. Even if you don't understand much French, you can follow the story. He does not talk much - he lets the music talk.
