i ve tried to get the mic elements from various elements,to build a small harp mic just to do it,ive got some elements from a real cheap vocal mic,a telophone,a camcorder mic,and one or 2 more i cant rmember where i have some scraps mostly and that may be the problem, but i ive tried, wiring a a old cut up guitar cord ive had in my scrapes to each mic and put the cord into a amp that i use to play my store bought mics into so i know the amp works, ive thought the cut cord maybe has a short so ive tried another old cord but the problem still could be old cords but anyway not one of these mics make any sound when i attach the guitar cord 2 wires 1 ground one hot ? wrap, seperate plug into amp?not working ive tried 5 or 6 mic elements not one has worked. I firgure the odds are at least one would work unless im not doing something right,Ive thought maybe i need a extra ground besides the ground from the gutar cord? i know nothing about eletronics,i ve kinda watched a few of the videos they all seem to only have 2 wires to hook up i think.I cant firgure out why out of 6 tried not one worked any know what im doing wrong

Have you got something to check the continuity in your cable. Maybe the centre wire is broken or not connected to the jack plug properly. Can you check them with a battery and bulb or something. Better still do you have meter?

Do the chords work OK with a guitar? You need to ensure the chord is OK before proceeding further?

It suggests that the cords are OK in that case, but I don't know how to guide you any further. You need somehow to get those elements checked out and depending on what types they are means checking in different ways with a meter.

Maybe somone will come along with an idea.

Yes Hobo, it is only the two wires in most cases. The one you took out of the camcorder may be an electret mic which would need to be wired differently with a small power supply. Anyway, you've already got a hobby making your music and videos. That gives us more entertainment than you playing with mics.

Hobostubs, can you post front and back photos of your elements?

We might be able to make a guess as to what type they are and offer suggestions as to how to test/use them. As you say, it's strange that so many are duds.

Cheers!

Anyway, as Tooka said, your videos are great anyway. The latest one's another cracker!

If you post some static pictures, it might be easier to see what's there than stop the frames on a YouTube, though.
