not sure on the cost but given I have family in the St. Paul Minn area I plan on going. Last I heard Chris M. will be borrowing his parents car to show us around :-) This is assuming he is available given his run in with George B.

Sorry. Check out Buddha's post on he playing with George Benson. May be a cool break for him. I hope he can make it to Minn. I plan on ordering a custom from him and possibly get my lesson in person.

I'm not going anywhere with George as far as I know. I was asked to his friends' album that going to be recorded this fall.

I'm from MN. I still have all of my family and many friends up there. The hotel is going to suck. It's in the middle of nowhere and across the street from the airport. You can walk a mile to the Mall of America but who the hell wants to walk a mile to a big ass mall and then take the time to walk of of the floors, each floor is a mile around.
HarpNinja will have a vehicle and I should be able to get one. If any of you have "special needs" that you need help in acquiring. Women, Drug, Guns whatever.... ---------- "The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are." - Joseph Campbell

Going to SPAH is on the top of my harp priority list. I haven't seen a date announced yet. I'm pretty sure I'll be driving up from Pittsburgh, especially if it's in August. Thanks,Jon I posted before I saw that.

I'd like to go but there's so many IFs. Last year I had to choose between my job and SPAH this year shouldn't be that bad. If I remember right last year the cost of the round trip flight was equal to the cost of SPAH + hotel. Looks like the roundtrip flight to MN from Philly is < $400 for that time of year so that's a little better ;) .

Diggs, there is NOTHING around there. You will be stuck eating in the hotel or walking to the mall to eat in the food court.

The Ramada has a shuttle to MOA. I'm 95% sure I'll be driving my car. I could probably fit 4 bodies for short distances like that.

who wants to hang out at the Mall? The MOA is seriously as stupid as you can get when it comes to tourists attractions. There is nothing to do there but walk around and notice the same store 3-4 times on different levels. Even the girl watching at the mall is a drag unless you like pasty white and bland.

@Buddha: I like my women like I like my oatmeal...
I wish I could go to SPAH, but the cost of getting up there from south Florida is so out of my league I'm not playing the same sport. Plus, saving up for Doc Gussow's meet-up this summer...argh.

I MAY go to SPAH this year. I've never been to Minnesota. It's a long drive from Mississippi, straight up the river..........

you're right about that discount, jon. my first SPAH i went the member/SPAH route figuring the $50 might help SPAH. and besides, as a member you are suppose to get some magazine for free. (they tried to get me to pay full price and then buy a membership!) but the membership only lasts till the end of the year and no issue of the mag ever came out after i signed up. the next SPAH i just paid full price for the ticket. SPAH survived without my $50.

I suppose you COULD walk to the MOA and then take the light rail downtown. 'Course, then you would be downtown and it's o.k. but really no great shakes either. Ha! I may go if I can get some friends to put me up. Probably would rent a car, too. I lived in MPLS for almost 20 years. I wish the SPAH folks could have found something a bit more in the middle of things but, I imagine the price then goes up considerably for rooms and whatnot. -Bob

@ Buddha – Not in MPLS. We had a start of a skype lesson the other day, though. Need to get back with you on that. I didn't really play much harp back in the minneapple. I did sing in a short lived band right after I moved there after college. Played SXSW and then broke up. Started back seriously on harp almost 2 years ago. And MPLS is a decent food town for sure. But, yeah, you're gonna have to travel pretty far off the SPAH site to get to anything but a chain restaurant. -Bob

all the SPAH events are at the hotel. or at least i have never heard them being anywhere else. so the cool thing is, once you get there, you never have to leave. (and most dont want to leave, either.) but hotel food can get expensive so folks will go somewhere else for meals. the people that go are usually friendly and would be willing to give a fellow a ride.

todd- i talked with the head honchos about how they get the convention somewhere. they said the big thing is to have an active harp group in the area. the harp group are the people that do all the leg work. so you may just have to check that your group is into doing the work and then contact spah heads about what they want you to do. i would think they would like to have the convention in a different part of the country.
