Delta juke joints

This is a site I discovered some time ago, possibly on here. Some info is old and the places may be closed, but others are still alive and kicking. This is especially of interest of you who are venturing to Adam's Hill Country Shindig, which he is still in the planning stages of. Dig thru, and you'll find all kinds of interesting facts and stories. Enjoy!

Another good resource is the book Blues Traveling: The Holy Sites of Delta Blues. It includes the Hill Country and lists juke joints, graves, and other landmarks. I take it with me every time I'm down there and check off a few sites with each visit.

They come and go very quickly in Mississippi...especially the Delta. Some of these joints listed here have been closed for years. I would definitely check first and travel in groups.

One more thing ....being that these are about the only type establishments i played in for 30 years,i feel i should share with you the fact that yes a good time can be had by all. But dont put much into what hes written. Hes definitely a carpetbagger looking to sale his Kereouc experiences down south to Yankees. But just like any nite club where there are limited or zilch law enforcement in the middle of no where you are the hunted and the hustled. Everybodies got a score. Some of the clubs are actually a persons house/club in the middle of a turn row of a cotton field. Its the real deal. Very cool in one regard if theres a crowd. Definitely nice when you are on stage or rather his living room. M.C/7TH GENERATION DELTAN.

Kudzu-I'll have to go look for that cornbread recipe-is it a sweet cornbread, or a savory one?
