Now I'm angry. I was hoping to see Steve Vai on fire.

I never did like his tone. Very manufactured, too many effects. Satch is the man, tone, taste and still plenty of chops.

Agree with scottb. That guy is almost too good to be interesting when playing his music.
His playing with Zappa (both Frank and Dwizil) is by far his best piece of work.

I have watched him mature over many years into the consummate guitarist he is now and satch is also a favorite.
All the great musicians use effects, watch Buddah's stuff and Ricci's, manafactured sound yes but the playing is awesome and if you dont see that, that's naive

Paul Gilbert destroys all! combine Steve Vai with Joe Satriani then add x2 skill

Yeah, Gilbert keeps me awake--but there's no real joy in it--I guess I'm just cursed with the inability to listen to endless loud arpeggios (just joking--jealous of his skill). I'm just not a fan of guitar shredders.

I miss John Lee Hooker. . .

At least a half dozen of these guys around. Coworker showed me this guy the other day. Ya want over the top shredding? Try this maniac.. Michael Angelo Batio. Most of this genre just feels like speed for speed's sake - like "Who's the fastest pick in the west?" height="344">=rutyA12z3Ok
