I just recently saw that Boss has a new digital reverb pedal, the FRV-1, based on the '63 Fender outboard tube reverb. Has anyone had a chance to check one out yet?
I'm still waiting for someone to come out with a pedal that will mimic the sound of the old classic outboard tube reverb unit, the Premier 90, which I still like better than the Fender one. --------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

I got to try out the FRV-1 pedal the other day. A guitarist friend of mine has bought one.
I tried it out through a little Matamp Spirit amp. It was very, very sensitive much like most Fender reverbs. At one point I had a fairly decent setting on it, but not one I was blown away by.
My feelings were that if I had spent longer with it I could have got a decent enough sound, but I wouldn't buy one.

Hi Bob - I haven't tried one with harp, yet. However, Kid Andersen had been using a '63 reissue reverb tank and he just sold it. He's been using one of these pedals for a couple of months. It sounded pretty damn good to me.
I had been using a Line 6 Verbzilla. There were a lot of good effects in that pedal, but I ended up selling it and replaced it with a Danelectro Dan Echo pedal, which I've never used outside the house. I bought that for $25 on ebay.

Oh yeah I agree it sounds great for guitar. Just maybe not the best for harp. I suspect a Boss RV-5 might be a better choice although I have never tried one. I know Gary Smith uses one, so does Annie Raines I believe.

I have one but I use it for guitar mainly. I have tried it with harp tho. It's a nice peadal and probably the next best thing to a real tube outboard unit. I guess it depends on how much reverb you like to use. The more you turn it up, the more obvious it gets that it's just a digital pedal but at a moderate setting I really can't complain. The T-Rex Tone Bug is great as well and very simple to use. I have just tried it in a store but my impression was the same as well. Sounds good at moderate settings but a bit artificial at extreme surf sounds.

I have one and use it at every gig. I like it because it's warm, and easy to use. Bob, on your recommendation I had bought a Digiverb pedal and I liked it, but it was too complicated for me. I wanted something that was closer to the reverb you would find on an amp, with a minimum of knobs and settings. I really like the pedal and would recommend it to anyone looking for simple, good sounding reverb.

The one setting I basically stick with on the Digiverb more than anything else is the spring reverb setting and when it came out, it sound much closer to a real spring reverb than anything else I've ever tried. Like most every reverb pedal, it models itself after the '63 Fender outboard tube reverb.
I'm still trying to find one that emulates the sound of a Premier 90, and having tried both the Fender as well as the Premier, fully wet on the Fender is barely 1/3 of the way up on a Premier 90, and at just slightly under half way on the Premier 90, it's the only reverb unit that gets the reverb sound that was used on LW's 1952 session that had Mean Old World, Boogie, Blue Midnight and Sad Hours, plus it was a pretty cool to use as a preamp as well.
The one thing bad about reverb pedals, tho they've gotten better at it, is that they really can suck a battery dry quick and I won't use one without the AC adapter.
I also have a long discontinued Guyatone MR-2, which was awesome and you can seperately control how the reverb either effects the reverb as well as the dry signal.
I stuill haven't tried out Guyatone's own outboard tube reverb yet. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
