Hi Sparra notice his Jaw moveing from side to side.ok he could be doing a few things,,1 while playing he is either just moveing his Jaw side to side, or 2 Playing the tune while slowly moveing the tongue left to right i call it toggleing it doesn't have to be a very wide movement just enough to get the effect,3 Maybe a split octave toggle,, grab Ya Harp do a 234 draw cord place ya tongue on the comb move ya tongue left to right lightly see ya doing it to easy,,now all you have to do is incorporate it in a tune..

Sounds like a split tongue block. One of the reasons I want to learn more theory is so that I can sit down and figure out how to play rounds with myself. I'd be happy with 'Row Row Row Your Boat!'
Hi Narco shush don't tell anyone but i TB,,Im not sure what you meen split TB,,Do you meen what i call octaves my tongue is on the comb but playing Holes 1---5 i get the same sound doing as a mentioned above Toggling,,Hay Im allso experimenting playing two holes on onside and only Playing one Hole on the otherside getting some interesting tones..
Nasty- I think we are talking about the same thing. You can tongue block and just get notes on one side or another, or you can block like you would on octaves. Or you can play a flutter with a left-right motion. I was just commenting in one of the other threads how there seems to be some things that just don't have names that really need names.
You call something one thing, I call it another and we don't have any idea what the other guy is talking about. We need a harmonica glossary.
The hard part with playing rounds is you have to figure what sets of notes you need to be playing at the same time. It's probably not even possible on all songs, since sometimes there might be times when you need to play a blow and a draw simultaneously. (Actually, I've heard that's actually possible, but I sure can't do it yet.) I suppose I could work it out using tab, but I haven't done much practice with tab. I do most stuff by ear. I'm actually better with sheet music than tab.
Yo Narco i hear ya i starting learnig from books thats where i got the split octaves term from,,Toggling well Bro I'm not even sure if it's a real term but we discussed this at my Harp Club one night i guy called it toggling..so thats what we call it now so where all on the same page,,yes we all seem to talk in different Tongues at times causeing all kinds of confusion..
Jon- Have you ever heard a group of people singing 'Row Row Row Your Boat' where one group comes in then the next group, then the next? Rounds are songs that are arranged so that you can create a harmony for a song just by having a second group singing the song (I think usually one bar/measure later.) I think mostly it's done with choir groups, although I think some fugues do it to. Bach gets really fancy with it and starts playing the melody with the same melody backwards or inverted.
edit- our posts crossed as we were typing. Great video. Rounds are a specific simple form of that. That's what I want to be able to do! Slip the tongue block off or on on either side so that you can be playing short notes and long notes at the same time. I suck at piano, but I think it's a better way to see which notes you want.
another edit- Can you imagine doing that with an insane U-block. You could play 3 individual lines.
