Have you seen these people on TV who have cut the middle of their tongue to make it like a snake's tongue? Would they be able to tongue block and play three holes at once 1-3-5 for example. There's all sorts of possibilities there.
The lumpophone [my still unfinished mic] has a fair amount of space in the shell. I reckon I could fit some LEDs to it and mount either a sequencer or a sound to light circuit to make them flash. If I used a 4way lead the power could come up the lead to save having a battery in the mic itself. {or a circuit for 20 [that's a lot!]LEDs one to light up for each reed or 10 x two colour LEDs one colour for blow and one for draw.} I don't think I shall bother, so if anyone wants to take on either of these ideas they are welcome.
How close to the harp should the mic element be? there's room in the Lumpophone to set it right close to the grill or back by up to about an inch I would guess.

Hi Lumpy crazy ideas!
Usually the element is front up front, but I have one of the Argonne bullets that Big Walter used sometimes and on that the crystal element is set at the back of the mic and there's a big chamber at the front of the mic where the sound can resonate. AFAIK the proximity effect only applies to cardioid and hypercardioid mics, so moving the element back on an omnidirectional bullet mic shouldn't change too much, but you might get interesting resonance effects going on. Experiment and see!

Lumpy- Lol. I was just wondering about forked tongues when I was watching the Levy video Jon posted. Maybe a melodica would be a simpler solution.
As for LED's, for a long time I've wanted a harp with LED's that lit up. A different one for each note, either activate by the wind, or maybe linked to a tuner. It would be great for teaching harp. Blue Blue Red Red Green Green Purple! (Although a midi output that created tab would probably work just as well.)
I also want to retrofit a joy buzzer into a harp spinner. Imagine you just played a hot solo, you hold up your hand with your harmonica in like you are going to wave, and it starts spinning! (Sparklers optional).
I also have an idea for a beginner harmonica that can play in any one key that you set it to, but you can set it to any key, all with no messing with a chromatic slide while you play! No memorizing the order of flats and sharps. (Actually, I have two ways to make this work.)
Unfortunately, I am not blessed with great craft skills.
