-Adam, Im so sorry to hear about Mr Satan's current state of affairs. I know he will be sorely missed at this special event. I know I was looking forward to hearing him wail. Nevertheless, pending a disaster, expect me and mine to join you in the festivities.

@Bluzdude: Rooms at the Days Inn in Holly Springs most certainly ARE available, at least according to Expedia:

http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?qscr=rsvd&itty=&itid=&itdx=

But I see what you mean: the link that we provided on the website takes you directly to the Days Inn website, and that certainly does seem to deliver a "no rooms available" message.

This is bizarre. It's not a big weekend--not a football weekend, for example.

There are certainly rooms available at the Days Inn and Super 8 in Oxford, which is about 20 miles away. Lots of options for people who insist on showers and NO crazy late night jams out under the Mississippi moon.........

I just tried following the Expedia process all the way through to the point where I was supposed to input my credit card #s and it worked. Those rooms are available. I think that the Days Inn link is mistaken. I'm going to replace it with an Expedia link. Thanks for the heads up.

@pharpo: I'm just off the phone with Jay Lang, who plays guitar in town and books Rooster's Blues House, the best blues bar in Oxford.

He's given us Friday night to do whatever we want. Charlie Hilbert is flying in on Friday, so it's possible that he'll be there. But Jay is willing to put a band together and make it a blues harmonica jam night.

We'll call it the Hill Country Harmonica Jam. There's never actually been an event like this in the hill country.

Adam,

Without wishing to sound too gushing - I don't do gushing all that well - I'm sorry to hear about Mr Satan's health.

I'm sure I'm not alone on here in wishing him peace of mind and happiness.

About the event, that's great news. I'll check the advanced flight ticket prices when I have the time over the next few days and take it from there.

@mikl: I just checked airfares London/Memphis roundtrip on Orbitz. There are lots of one-stop tickets for about $620 US, including all taxes and fees. That's 400 pounds UK. Leave Thursday, arrive Thursday. Have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the event; take Monday and Tuesday to recover and see a bit of the Delta and Memphis; fly home on Wednesday. Not a bad vacation.

Jon,
I thought about camping at the State Park, but I don't want to have to look around for my campsite in the middle of the night. There's free camping on site, but I'm gonna go the hotel route.

If you run a check of the weather for that part of Mississippi at that time of year, you'll find out that the daily highs are 82 and the daily lows are 62. The humidity is variable. But it's actually a good time of year, and definitely NOT the hazy, hot, and humid stuff.

I just went back and checked May 22 for each of the last six years. Daily highs ranged from a low of 71 to a high of 87, but the average was indeed in the low 80s. Daily lows ranged from a low of 57 to a high of 66.

That's pretty ideal weather for this sort of event.

Jon....I have a cabin at the state park....you could always come over and use that shower too...I'd let you use my tent too but really have no way to get it there. It would be considered extra baggage on the plane.

@jon: I'm coming down with a two room tent (with dividers) if you're interested in sharing a tent and save the cost of buying one. I just uploaded a photo of it under "camping"

"bring the dope" haha-I wonder how many attendants will just read that part of this thread? Remember, this is Mississippi we're talkin' about-watch Midnight Express before pondering that...

Seriously, DD, good advice. I'll have some on hand for anyone in need. Mosquito dope, that is...
