I currently have: LO marine band in low F
Marine band in G
Zen harp in A (or will have soon)
1847 in Bb
Marine band in C
1847 in D
If the new Zen is good ill probably get one of those in Eb. Any better suggestions...?

Finish your keyset:Ab,B,Db,E,F#. Pick your fave brand/custom make, or look for good deals online in the keys you need. This will prepare you to play whatever, whenever!

Hi Jfllr1
I know you are a TB and I recommend that you try a West Weston Harp.
West Plays TB all the time even in 1st position and his harps are great. He is a very hard player and I am sure you would play better with a west harp I have several and they play brilliantly and are very cheap for the work he puts into them.

check out west weston on my space and on my site oxharp

You should try a Suzuki Manji or Firebreath in one of the keys you need.

Manji mania seems to have died now though. I don't hear much about them anymore. Perhaps they didn't live up to expectations.

I only have three keys so far, but I still like mine a lot.

Perhaps you should try a Manji. I own one of everything. Buy only Marine Band Crossover and Manjis now. Great OOTB harp.

If it's just a matter of trying news models, you can go Suzuki.
And I will go with Snakes concerning Manji and Firebreath, both very different in tone, but both excellent.

If someone was starting a set from scratch, I'd tell them to start at C and work their way around the circle of fifths skipping one step each time, that way after 6 harps they will be able to play along with anything in just first or second position.

I'd also tell them to buy different model each time so they could learn what they like. (A Marine Band, a Special 20, a Seydel Blues Favorite or 1847, a Golden Melody, a Suzuki of some sort, a Lee Oskar). I'd also recommend one harp each in equal, just and compromise tuning.

There seem to be three (now for with the B-Radical) different shapes for harmonicas- The basic sandwich, the smooth cover (like a Blues Favorite) and the GM. There are also wood, plastic, composite and metal combs. Try at least one of each. Try one with valving, one with half-valving.

After that start honing in on what you liked. You might want a complete set of harps that you know you will replace later just to fill out the other keys. As you replace them you can use them to experiment with for tuning and embossing and all that good stuff without ruining a better harp.
