Let me crosspost my question from http://lonewolfblues.com/forum as nobody replied me there.

I really enjoy harpdelay for overdriven playing (with Harp Attack or with cranked up tube amp). But I also often play with clean jazz tone (to amp or to PA) and I dislike that Harp Delay roll off high frequencies (especially sweet 1,5-1,6 kHz upper mids) from dry part of signal and I have some muddy tone. Randy offers me to change my Harpdelay for Hardelay V2, but I like harpdelay for overdriven tone and don't want to lose it. Also I've counted that mailing will costs me almost half price of a pedal ($70-80, as i'm from Russia). My second delay Ibanez DE7 is too bright for my taste even at "echo" mode.

Does anyone here have the similar problems? Maybe it's possible to find another solution, with continuing using harpdelay?
Anyway now I'm thinking about another delay. What do you recommend Harp Delay v2 or MXR carbon copy or Two Timer? I've found some used carbon copies on ebay for the sweet prices around half of Harp Delay v2.

I use Shure SM57 almost all the time and Audix Fireball sometimes, both with impedance transformers. I dislike all bullet mics and I have some bad experience with Shure 520DX and Hohner Blues Blaster. I even disliked Dennis Grenling's astatic. All that bullet mics sounds to muddy for me as I play relatively fast.

P.P.S. No critiques for great products by Randy Landry! They are great. Just keep searching for my tone.

I know exactly what you mean.

I suggest to try out either Line6 echo park or BBE two timer. In fact Echo Park is my favourite at the moment.
I also have Lone Wolf v2, Boss DM-3

Hi Leo, what do you think of the V2. I've just won one from the lonewolf website. It says its has more treble than the original harp delay. Is it too trebley? I like quite a dark tone

The warmest delay I've found is the Electro Harmonix.
Warm analog and fat.I used to use it with my 2016.
It broke but they've re-issued it and I hope it sounds
the same. This is with a 2016 and an akg dm 500 mic
Solid state amp. Twenty two years ago.lol
The 2016 can have high end problems

Luke,
V2 is basically the same as original delay. I use it with Harp Break. Treble is a matter of taste. I will upload video on wednesday and you will be able to judge for yourself

The BBE is going to be brighter for an analog delay, but more clean than digital bright. Meaning, the repeats will be cleaner and clearer. I am thinking you may not like a dark delay like a Boss DM2, etc.

I would suggest a digital delay like the Line 6 products. Also, the Digi Tech Hard Wire delay gets a lot of love from guitar players. If you can try those, they might be a good compromise.

The MXR is a bit warmer than the BBE, or so I am told. I really like the BBE as it has more presence than a Boss DM2, but it isn't creating feedback. I wouldn't think it would be too bright for you.

Ah, ha! So you don't like what the delay is doing to your dry tone. I thought you meant the repeats.

MXR or Boss DM2 would be good pedals to check out. The Line 6 DL4, which is a huge pedal, lets you eq the delays and you can make them very, very dark. I don't think the Echo Park does that, but I am not for sure.

You wouldn't like the BBE.

Some of these changes can also be due to impedance mismatches between the amp, the mic and as well as the delay pedal.

hi boris, you may not like this, but maybe just play with the effect more than half on or in true bypass... i suspect more than half on and there is no way to hear that the dry portion is dropping treble. or you could buy the tone plus and stomp it in to dial up the treble when you need it....

I use SM57 with impedance transformer so it makes proper load to delay.

I have to add a lot of trebles on my amp or Boss GE7 which I have. Still not enough for clean jazz tone. I turn blend to 12 o'clock usually.
