Hi All: My music will once again be used for the soundtrack for the NBC special called "Stories". It will be on in the central ohio area, channel 4, sunday @12:30. This is the second show in the new series and I have done the music for both. Still it is hard to believe that they let me do whatever I want. They give me the theme and that is it. This one is a Valentines theme. For Spontobeat to be on network TV still blows my mind. Heck, no blues/alternative/magazines/NPR have ever responded to my submissions for a story on spontobeat. I look forward to seeing what happens. Walter here is a link to the first special. The last segment is one on me.

thanks! the part I am most proud of is they never questioned the quality of my recordings. I have been working 5 years now, 30-60 hours a week, at teaching myself how to record. Doing everything in one take, with all the instruments and my voice within a few feet of each other makes for an interesting recording problem. The drums/cymbal especially carry over to the mics on the guitar and voice/harp. The producer told me that this is probably the first network tv show with a completely spontaneous soundtrack. I am also proud of that. This is the first major visual media to aknowledge my music. I always figured it would be Public TV, or b movie soundtrack, if it ever happened. Walter

hi oda: My hollywood agent set it up. Only kidding. Andrew Banks a reporter, producer for the station called me and asked if he could do a segment on spontobeat. I said sure and he came by my house and did it. It was on the news and got good feedback he told me (that was why they used it as the final clip on Stories). Then he called and said they were going to be starting a new program called Stories and wanted to use my segment in the show. I said sure. Then a few days later he called and asked if I wanted to do the music for it. I said as long as I could do spontobeat with no strings attached. He said fine and I submitted a few cds worth of songs I recorded that week. The show went over good and he said they got lots of compliments on the music and asked if I would like to do the soundtracks for upcoming shows. He next contacted me for the special sunday but there were strings attached. they wanted me to do only do guitar instrumentals and guitar and singing. I replied I couldn't do it unless I was allowed to play whatever came to me, and in whatever instrument format as well. Andrew called me back and said do it anyway I want. I still can't believe it.
Back in the mid 80's Robbie Robertson wanted me to play harp on the movie The Color of Money. I was excited as heck, but when he said that I would have to leave austin and come to Ca for a week or 2 for rehearsals I backed out. I explained I just play, and don't repeat things. I was flattered that I was wanted, but couldn't do it. Michael Been (the Call) actually showed up at my gig one night and introduced himself after we were done. He helped up load up the van and we went back to his hotel. The Call(I had never heard of them) was on tour and Robbie asked Michael to meet me. We did an hour confrence call from Michaels room. Robbie was a real nice guy, but my way wouldn't fit their plans. I am glad I said no because if I did do it, anyone who heard it would know me that way and for my spontaneous way of doing music. It would have been cool hanging with Robbie and Clapton for sure, but that will have to wait till they call me for spontobeat (I ain't waiting for the phone to ring :) ) Walter ---------- walter tore's spontobeat - a real one man band and over 1 million spontaneously created songs and growing.
