good stuff. I dig it. I have an A harmonic minor. It is indeed a lot of fun. It's especially good if people want to "hear you play" you could blow anything and they'll be like "ooouuuu foreign"
Wow Jon thats really good. Great minds must think alike cos im waiting for my Lee Oskar Minor tuned harp(Am) to arrive in the post , should be here this morning, at least i hope it will be after watching your video, great job dude!!!

Seydel makes minor-tuned harps, too--Coast2coast has them, but but Rockin' Ron apparently doesn't. For that matter, he apparently doesn't carry the alternatively-tuned LOs, either.
Has anyone tried out Seydel's "Diminished" tuning? Sounds interesting.
It makes sense for Ron not carry them because the average player has a hard enough time learning to get around on the standard tuning as it is and many of those alternate tunings don't sell very well and most players who do buy them tend to have a far better handle on knowing their music theory and where each and every note is on the instrument 24/7, which the average harp player, unfortunately, doesn't take enough time to learn. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
Harmonic Minor 1st Pos Gm(H) 2nd Pos Bb Natural Minor 1st Pos Gm (D) 2nd Pos Dm(N)
I have 2 Natural Minors Am(n) & Em(n) & 2 Harmonic Minors Gm(H) & Am(H). I also have a couple of Melody Makers in G & D.
I love them all. They all open up new possibilities. Ie some tunes that I struggled with on standard diatonics seemed easier to play. In particular the Melody Makers were good (no good for blues) & able to play eg Desperado which I struggled with on a standard harp. The Harmonic Minors ie straight harp can play anything recognisable but with a distinct very ethnic sound.

Obviously a Natural Minor. Easy way to tell is look at the front ie N on natural and H on harmonic. The natural is labeled in cross harp key but has first & second pos on each of the ends wheras the harmonic is only labeled in 1st pos.
A lot of what BBQbob says is right. I appreciate and use my alternate tunings but am the first to admit that I have no handle on music theory. Somehow, somethings just seem to be easier on the alternative tunings ie extent of my theory!
The only LO I have left in my case are natural minors. I have a Sydel Bm I like it but my LO Am is still in pretty good shape so I haven't replaced it. One of my fav tunes is doing All Along The Watchtower with just an Acoustic Guitar player with a Dave Mathews/Grateful Dead kinda funky Rythym ----------
The Original Downtown Philadelphia Fatman... Accept No substitutes!
Ain't they fun? Jon-I know you'll be ecstatic to know this:It's easy to play Stairway To Heaven(vocal melody)on a natural minor harp. I figured that might cheer you up. ---------- > Todd L Greene. V.P.
