Lately I've been spending more time in the upper octave with not only 1st position, but also in 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions. I'm finding a ton of variety by using lower keys harps from time to time, a mix of upper octave and the middle octave, and of course holes 1-4 as seriously gritty bluesy home plate area.

I have been really enjoying the upper octave bends and the wailing trills you can do from them. Also bending chords up there and kind of raunching it out. I have some descending runs in particular now that really go great in measures 9-12 and land on some very cool rhythm chugging to turn it around...inspired by but not even remotely copied from one of Adam's videos. I enjoy using triplets up there as well.

My band has been on a 3 month hiatus due to the lead singer's wife having some pregnancy problems. We had a practice Tuesday night and all is well with her. I found it really paid off to explore the upper octave during that time off because I can really make the songs all sound different now, no matter how similar they are in basic format. The upper octave has given me some more melodic options and a whole different sound to add to some of our originals in particular.

Thanks to Adam and his videos on the upper octave and 1st position blues especially. Good stuff.

Sounds interesting, I think you should make a video demonstration. That way I can steal it from you : ) Just kidding, but I would like to hear a demonstration of what you've come up with.

Maybe I can work something up to a jam track next week. I'm going to the dentist in an hour and am not sure what the rest of this weekend will be like...ouch!

Ryan, steal it all man. Its all fair game 'cause it's gotta get played to be any good. Give him credit, but steal away.
