Hi all. It's been pretty hectic for me a school lately, and I haven't had a chance to play much harp these last couple of weeks, let alone play with my new Digitech RP155 that came in the mail last week. So with all that pent up inside me, it turns out my wife went out with the girls tonight, which has left me home alone to jam out to my hearts content! So I cracked that bottle of Jameson that was up in cupboard, and I plugged everything in... I started making my own patches and figuring out the looper. After several so-so song attempts, I found a couple of combination's of sounds that just inspired me to the core, and this song came out.
I call this one "The Bangla Beat" because it was inspired by my childhood memories of my dad playing his traditional Bengali bamboo flute at night after my brother and I had gone to bed. I can still hear that flute sound in my head to this very day. I'm playing a Bb Hohner Blues harp that I retuned to Just Intonation. I'm using my DIY bullet mic (see my video on how I made that) through my new Digitech RP155 with my own custom patches (FX + Amp combinations). The RP155 allowed me to make my harp sound like my dad's bamboo flute! I'm also taking full advantage of the RP155's built in looping capabilities. The RP 155 is fed into my DIY 30 watt amp head set to clean. This is then fed through my DIY speaker cabinet with vintage 2x10" hifi speakers. Sound and video recorded on my Pentax Optio digital camera set to video mode.
As always, I would love to hear any and all opinions, critiques, advice, or words of wisdom that you might have. You guy's make me a better player everyday by all that this community is and does. Your advice is invaluable to me. I cannot believe I spelled "invaluable" correctly (twice!" after how much Jamey I just drunk!
Alright, I jumped the gun I guess... It's finished uploading now and should be up and running! Damn... Don't try to drink and operate YouTube at the same time! ;) ---------- ------------------ The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"

"I started making my own patches" Isaac, are you referring to the short leads to connect your gear or something else? I'm confused. Patch/es has so many meanings these days I'm not sure what context you are using it in.
Love the sound, by the way. It will be interesting to follow your progress with this set-up. Well done.
Tooka, yeah, CongaRon is correct. the Digitech's are DSP's (digital signal processors), with tons of different digital models of different amps, speaker cabinets, and effects. You can make your own "patches", which are specific combos of these things with all the parameters tweaked to your liking. The RP155 comes with software so you can basically connect it to your computer, use a nice interface to fool around with different combination's, and then save them to the unit (and/or back them up on your hardrive)...
tooka, I think you know by now how cheap and DIY I am. It took a lot for me to make the jump of faith and shell out the clams for this thing. But trust me when I say that it is worth every penny. I can do SO much with this thing that I could not do even if spent ten times the amount I paid for it on individual fx pedals and amps. To me, it's now a no brainer. It's worth it, and I should have bought one months ago. ---------- ------------------ The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"
