I've just received an RE10 from dirty beeach amps (Great guy, great service, highly recommended). I plugged it in and I'm well happy with the tone. Anyways, I've noticed a small switch near to where the cable plugs in. What does this switch do exactly? Also I've noticed that the grooved section of the handle of the mic is working like a seperate mic. Do you all leave it like this. I was thinking that alot of the mic bit on the handle is exposed when playing so could be a potential feedback problem and also might pick up unwanted sounds. Has this ever been an issue for you? What do you guys do about it?
The little switch is a bass roll off switch. I leave mine in the down position.
I'm not sure what you mean about the grooved section acting like a separate mic. I just leave mine as is (with the grill on the handle) and have never had any problems with it. The Ev RE10 is a very feedback resistant mic in my experience.
Thanks for the reply Kingley. You were one of the reasons that convinced me to try the RE10 when you posted about it a while back. Didn't explain it very well. It seems that the grill on the handle picks up noise as if there is an element behind it. If i cover dome of the mic and blow into the grill on the handle, it makes as much noise as if I blew directly into the dome. Does yours do this? I was wondering if there was a way to stop it?
I've just put my mouth on the handle on the other side of the grooved section and hummed. I could only just hear it coming out of the amp. I then done the exact same on the grooved section and it was as loud as hell. It is def more than handling noise I'm hearing. Under the grooved bit on the handle there is a wire mesh, I just pulled it up a bit and there is a kind of silk screen
No mine doesn't make a lot of noise at all. It might be an idea to record what you're hearing and then we may be able to assess if there is a problem with the mic.

Luke - I just tested mine and it does the exact same thing when I follow what you're doing. It won't cause you any problems when playing it normally though.
Phew. I thought I had a strange one for a minute. I only noticed it cos I blow quite hard out of my nose to expel air and the grill was turned up and I could hear it. I'll just make sure it's turned down when I play. To be honest, I love the sound this mic makes. Thanks for your time Paul to put my mind at ease.
I always thought the side vents were like those on shotgun mics: i.e. to improve off-axis rejection and reduce the proximity effect, but I'm no expert.
Oisin, the mic sounds GREAT!!! But, the only other mic I can compare it to is a sonotone cm10 with a ceramic element. The sonotone only sounds good to me with a fully sealed cup. The re10 sounds great with a loose cup and is killer with a tight cup and is so easy to cup it tight. It honestly sounds 50% bigger and yes it dirty's up great. I bought it from john johnson from dirty beeach amps and paid $115 including shipping. We agreed $100 for the mic and $15 for shipping. He ended up paying $28 for shipping and didn't ask for any extra. He emailed me with a tracking number and it was in my hands in 8 days.He was great throughout the transaction, answering all my questions within hours. I would buy from him again in a heartbeat. The mic was also in fantastic condition, near mint infact. He also said he's got another one but he said he might keep it. Send him an email, you might be able to pry it off of him. When are you next at the coach ?
Cheers for the info Luke. It sounds like a great mic. Don't know when I'll next get up the Coach, hopefully in the next few weeks but it all depends on the missus as I need to arrange babysitters etc but I'll try and let you know via here and give you a couple of weeks notice. It would be great to meet up and maybe meet a couple of other harp players who go to the jam.
