We love taking the dogs for a walk in Bidwell Park, in Chico Ca., but not as much as the dogs do! As do most of us (all of us?), I carry a couple of harps with me. You never know when the mood will hit you. Along the walk I spot a group of three fellows, and one is playing some acoustic guitar. I stop, look over, and say, "You play any blues tunes?" He was a bit unsure, but I handed the leash of my dog to my wife and walked over and said, "Let's try something in E." He re-tuned out of the alternative tuning he was using, and I said, "Just a medium-fast 12 bar shuffle in E, and off we went! He got into it very quickly, and we played about four improvised verses and choruses, and then as he kept playing, I said, Let's do some Little Walter, and I went into four or five of the phrases from Juke.
At the end I told them that Juke was the first number one hit featuring harp, and his friend who was doing his Spanish homework said, "Who was that again?" he wanted to check him out.. Very cool.
The best part was that they had a friend along who was evidently developmentally disabled, and he was really enjoying the music, a LOT! A day can't get mush better then bringing a smile to someone by just doing what makes you feel good as well- playing the harp..
It was a good day, indeed.

Randy, that's a cool story! Opportunity meets preparation.

Good story. In my mind, that's pretty close to the ideal musical experience.
