I'm new to the forum and you can say a beginner harp player, although I've been playing (on and off) for years. I can tongue block and play 'Ole Susanna', I know it's not much.
I only had a Special 20 in key of G and ordered the Piedmont Blues Harps before I did a little more research.
Got them in today, for being a cheap harp, they play ok, at least for a beginner. If nothing else got a case for my good harps.

Hi Jay, welcome to the forum. Yes, you have discovered the "hard way" the same thing many others have. The case is better than the harps. Still, at least you now have a few more harps in other keys to tide you over before you fill them out with more Spec 20's (or other good harps)! My first similar "mistake" was buying the full Johnson Blues King set. Live and learn! :)

DeathB-Go to the forum how-to and follow the steps such as putting a pin on the map where you live, completing your profile, etc. Welcome aboard, neighbor! I'm a native of Gulfport, MS myself.

I'm in Biloxi in the Eagle Point area. I've only been playing since this fall, but Adam's lessons have been a big help.

If you would like to get in touch and see if we can't help each other out, my email is in my profile.

Welcome to the forum.

I stumbled onto the piedmont harps in the new musician's friend catalog. It says the reed plates are aluminum. That explains a few things i noticed about mine right away..very light weight..along with plastic covers..these things are light! Also a sort of quiet tone..not as brassy by any means, but some of that could be the reeds themselves.

I said all that to say this...now i can play the piedmont blues harps like they were marine bands...when i got them, not so much. I kept mine and use them for a tonal variety on recordings or to play later at night when volume can be an issue.

they may or may not help you learn bends and overblow..it depends on if you got good ones. They are plenty playable though once you learn a bit.

My Piedmont's reed plates don't look aluminum. Some of them are terrible, but I got a couple that play real well. They've got a real warm tone. They taste bad when you first get them.
