...REALLY just an MB Deluxe with a bamboo comb, different covers and different tuning?
I know some of this has been beaten to death, but I just received my first Crossover. It plays really nicely and sounds great. I've had an MB Deluxe and a Manji in the same key, and I can't say that I enjoyed playing either of those as much.
Why do Filisko, Baker et. al. say it's so great, if it's just those fairly superficial differences?
I guess my question really is: is the reedwork, aka gapping, profile, etc. (aside from the tuning) REALLY the same (as the MB Deluxe)?
I was hoping I could work the word "really" into the post a couple more times, but I'm really out of gas. Really!

The comb is FULLY sealed, wheras the MBD is only partially sealed (sealed only along the outer edges, meaning that it can still swell, wheras with a fully sealed comb, this won't happen and this process takes much longer and is a lot more expensive in terms of production line costs). The slot tolerances are tighter, meaning less air needed to play them, and yes, the tuning IS different, a comprimise tuning, yet different than anything Hohner has used.
As far as the tuning, I've posted these links before, so here they are again:

Those differences are NOT superficial. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

In my personal experience the Crossover is a markedly better responding harp. I have some MB Deluxe harps that I'm really kinda "meh" about. But the Crossover is a very nice out of the box harp. -Bob

I'm with you guys. It's the slot tolerances/reedwork that has surprised me. Comb sealing and tuning don't immediately appear to affect playability (on a dry harp), but reedwork does. Everything I've read has said it's just the same reedplate as the MB Deluxe, with different tuning. It sure doesn't play that way, though.
@harpwrench, sorry! I mean Filisko, not you. Original post corrected.
